MSNBC’s Ed Schultz will return to weekdays later this month after a brief hiatus as weekend host, signalling a reversal of fortunes for the bombastic television personality who has become a champion to union workers and blue-collar liberals.
Starting Aug. 26, “The Ed Show” will air weeknights in the 5 p.m. slot currently held by “Hardball” with Chris Matthews. “Hardball,” which airs live at 5 p.m. and runs again at 7 p.m., will now air exclusively in the latter time slot.
“Chris Matthews and the ‘Hardball’ team have been pulling double duty for years. This move will concentrate the ‘Hardball’ audience to one key time period and enhance the flow of our evening programming,” Griffin said in a statement. “Ed Schultz is a force of nature and an important voice to the MSNBC audience. I can’t wait to have him back on weeknights.”
Though Ed Schultz’s bombastic style isn’t for everyone, I rather enjoyed the perspective he brought to the issues, and it’ll be nice to have him back on weeknights on MSNBC.
Rush Limbaugh’s trembling jowls think Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown grad student who was denied the right to testify at the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on contraceptives, is a big fat slut. A whore. A harlot. A big time prostitute.
Fluke argued that birth control should be covered by religious institutions, and that fellow students are paying far too much out of pocket for a prescription. In response to her suggestion that women are often prescribed birth control for medical reasons, Rush got all red in the face and took to his radio show, sputtering:
What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception.
Mercy me, what can be done about America’s loose ladies and their whorey uteral demands? Rush continued his nonsensical bushwhacking by insulting Fluke’s family and the values she was raised on:
Can you imagine if you’re her parents how proud of Sandra Fluke you would be? Your daughter goes up to a congressional hearing conducted by the Botox-filled Nancy Pelosi and testifies she’s having so much sex she can’t afford her own birth control pills and she agrees that Obama should provide them, or the Pop.
Tonight Ed Schultz allowed Sandra Fluke a forum to defend herself”
“I guess my reaction is the reaction a lot of women have when they’ve been called these names,” Fluke said during an appearance on MSNBC. “Initially you’re stunned but then, very quickly, you’re outraged because this is historically the kind of language that is used to silence women, especially when women who stand up and say that these are their reproductive health care needs and this is what they need.”
“What’s been amazing to me today is the outpouring of support,” she continued. “Everyone from members of Congress to Georgetown faculty to so many women who’ve contacted me, and I think it’s clear from what they’ve said that they’re not going to be silenced by this.”
Rush Limbaugh is the face of the right and he is a vile human being. This sexist disgusting ignorant republican party spokesman is also a huge fan of Paul Ryan (R- Wall St.).

It nearly slipped by, but Mitt Romney bashed the Obama administration for the wildly successful bailout of the auto industry. As Jonathan Alter points out, if he’s the nominee, he can kiss Michigan goodbye. The Dems will use that clip over and over and over to hammer him.
…Scott Kevin Walker cut 1.6 BILLION dollars from the public education budget over the next two years, even as he passes out tax breaks like candy and increases public funding to private and charter schools. Most districts in the state were forced to deal with these cuts this year by forcing our top commodity, experienced teachers, into early retirement to get some short-term balance in hiring new, “less expensive” teachers. Programming cuts are rampant all over the state…
The pull quote here from Gov. Scott “tooljob” Walker is ” The key date is September 1st, when school started and people realized that it was the same or better as before.”
Scott Walker and the Republican legislature cuts $1.6 billion dollars from education and it is the “same or better”? How many schools has Governo Walker been inside to know that they are the same or better?
“What the net is or will be is impossible to say, but “better” isn’t likely. I’d add that in education it is best to take the longer view, and next year looks bad and the following years look worse. Program and service cuts will increase, teaching will be less attractive, the “new improved” test-based accountability program is more of the same failed approach, the Reading initiative will likely be modeled on the corrupt and failed Reading First program. the long view is not good
Yes, Our children will still go to school, they will still get a public education but things are NOT “the same or better”. Class sizes have increased, electives are dwindling, fees are constantly increasing, staff reductions, fundraising is prevalent, schools are crumbling, teachers are demoralized and demonized, many excellent teachers have retired, college students are being chased from the profession, supplies are short, valuable services that help the neediest of families are being slashed, poverty is exploding, and this extensive list goes on.
I call that a very expensive Net loss that we can not afford as a nation!
After making his vile comments, Schultz met with MSNBC executives, acknowledged his inappropriate and vile comments and offered to take a one week unpaid leave from his show, an offer executives accepted. Here’s Schultz’s full on-air apology:
I’m glad Ed Schultz did the right thing in issuing an apology for his vile and insensitive comments, and what’s more, for recognizing how inappropriate his comments were and offering to take unpaid leave from his TV show. However, Schultz’s apology – and the punishment he received for his comments – don’t negate the fact that he shouldn’t have said what he said in the first place.
Last night marked the first night of MSNBC’s new nightly lineup, with “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell replacing Olbermann at 7 p.m. CST, “The Ed Show” with Ed Schultz moving to 9 p.m., and Cenk Uygur replacing Schultz at 5 p.m., and I have to say that I’m far from impressed with Uygur’s show. Whether you agreed with Keith Olbermann’s ideology or not, his show was well-produced, and while there’s still time for Cenk Uygur to turn things around, his first night on the job seemed pretty shaky.
