Newt Gingrich Wants to Shred the Bill of Rights:

Earlier this week when it seemed like he was still in the running to be Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich decided to shred the Bill of Rights:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday that U.S. citizens “of a Muslim background” should be tested to see if they believe in Sharia law. (emphasis mine)

“And if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported,” he added, speaking on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

Gingrich was reacting to the terror attack in Nice, France, that left more than 80 dead, including at least two Americans.

“I think you either kick them out of the country — People tell me, ‘We can’t do that to American citizens.’ We are in a war. We better rethink the rules, or we’re going to lose the war,” Gingrich told Fox host Sean Hannity.

Gingrich appeared to be defining Sharia, or Islamic law, by its strictest interpretation, such as that embraced by the Islamic State terror group in parts of Syria and Iraq. Gingrich pointed to Islamist groups burning women and beheading captives.

The ex-House speaker further called for the U.S. government to aggressively monitor mosques and to “be fairly relentless about defining who our enemies are.”

“Anybody who goes on a website favoring ISIS, or al-Qaida or terrorist groups, that should be a felony. And they should go to jail,” he said.

“Everybody who watches this video: This is the fault of Western elites who lack the guts to do what is right, to do what is necessary and to tell us the truth. And that starts with President Obama,” he soon added.

So let’s see…freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, violation of due process, etc., etc., etc.!

But doesn’t it seem odd that he never once mentioned keeping guns away from them…so once again the second amendment remains sacrosanct and all of the other rights play second fiddle.

Thank goodness that Donald Trump selected someone else! But we still need to defeat Mr. Trump to prevent Mr. Gingrich from showing up elsewhere in a Trump administration!

And to be fair, not unlike Mr. Trump, when the levee broke, Mr. Gingrich tried to walk this back:

Gingrich started to walk back his comments Friday morning, saying on Twitter that the media distorted his views.

Direct quotes? Video? Results in distorted views? WTF?

Why does Ben Carson want to disregard the U.S. Constitution?

Article VI, paragraph 3 of the United States Constitution (emphasis added):

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

With that in mind, here’s what Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson had to say about the possibility of a Muslim being elected president.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson says Islam is antithetical to the Constitution, and he doesn’t believe that a Muslim should be elected president.

Carson, a devout Christian, says a president’s faith should matter to voters if it runs counter to the values and principles of America.

Responding to a question during an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he described the Islamic faith as inconsistent with the Constitution.

“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation,” Carson said. “I absolutely would not agree with that.”

Taking to Twitter, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders criticized Carson’s intolerance.

Yes, Islam Is Speaking Out Against The Attacks On Charlie Hebdo

Following any type of attack on the West (and let me be clear here…I mean the West) by Muslim extremists, the cry goes out that all moderate and peaceful Muslims must denounce the terrorisms being carried out in the name of their religion. Well in fact, such denouncements have occurred…but they are hard to find in the media…is there no reason to report them? But here is one comment from Religion News Service writer, Kimberly Winston, saying that there are condemnations from Islamic states and organizations:

Still, many Muslims have condemned the attacks. The governments of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Algeria and Qatar all issued harsh statements. A French organization of 250 Muslim groups condemned the killings, as did the Muslim Council of Britain. Tariq Ramadan, a professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford and a progressive Muslim, said on the television program “Democracy Now“: “This is just a pure betrayal of our religion and our principles.”

Now what about the atrocities being committed in Africa in the name if Islam?

VIDEO: NJ Gov. Chris Christie defends judge he appointed against anti-muslim attacks

Watch as Republican Gov. Chris Christie defends Sohail Mohammed and his nomination of Mohammed to serve as a Superior Court judge in Passaic County.

I’ll give Gov. Christie credit where credit is due – at a time when it’s fashionable for Republicans and conservatives in general to feed into anti-Muslim hysteria, he stood up and did the right thing, even if it won’t win him a single vote (and might actually cost him some votes).

A question for the opponents of the mosque near Ground Zero

This entry is directed at those among my readers who’ve expressed their opposition to the placement of an Islamic center several blocks away from the site of the former World Trade Center. It’s been written by commenters here and elsewhere that putting a mosque/Islamic center so close to the site of the 9/11 attacks is an affront to all the victims of those attacks, but what I’d like to know is if those same folks would think that building a shopping mall on the actual site of the 9/11 attacks is disrespectful to all the victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

According to the website for the Freedom Tower which has been proposed for the site of the 9/11 attacks, the Freedom Tower will include retail space in the below-grade concourses:

The below-grade concourses will include approximately 55,000 square feet of retail space…

So there will be a shopping mall literally in the ground of Ground Zero, ground that’s no doubt mixed with the remains of those who perished on September 11, 2001. A mall….in the ground.

I’d like to hear one of the folks who was so opposed to the construction of an Islamic center/mosque two blocks away from Ground Zero tell me how building a shopping mall in the ground that may still contain the remains of those who died on September 11, 2001 is a fitting and appropriate way of honoring those who died.
