State Representative Leah Vukmir (R-Wauwatosa), candidate trying to oust State Senator Jim Sullivan (D-Wauwatosa), is holding a fundraiser on June 28th…in Muskego. It strikes me as a funny since most of us who live in the southern burbs of Milwaukee metro always complain of the lack of places to dine or hold events. We usually travel to places such as, oh, Wauwatosa for such finer things in life. How ironic is it that a candidate representing those finer areas like Brookfield and Tosa is coming all the way down to Muskego to do a fundraiser.

Are all the venues in Brookfield, Elm Grove, Wauwatosa and West Allis booked for months? Probably not.

Then why Muskego? Here’s my perspective:

Vukmir is known as a rising star for the Tea Party base(s) in Wisconsin, and generally appears at such functions. The Wisconsin GrandSons of Liberty, the area Tea Party organization, is based in Muskego’s suburban neighbor, Franklin (also in Lazich’s district). Could it be that Vukmir is aiming to appeal to the GrandSons of Liberty by bringing her fundraiser so close to their homes?

I wonder of State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) or her aide, Kevin Fischer, will be in attendance for Vukmir’s event as well. Muskego is in Lazich’s senate district afterall, and Lazich could take advantage of the event by gaining more supporters and possible volunteers. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone, Democrat or Republican, plans to take Lazich on when she’s up for re-election. There is a growing frustration about her decision-making from more than just Democrats. Lazich will need all the help she can get if she lands an opponent…especially a Republican or Tea Party challenger.

Earlier today, State Sen. Kevin Fisc….Mary Lazich, one of Wisconsin’s worst legislators, accused the developer of a proposed housing development in New Berlin of turning to two Dane County Democratic senators to get support for tax credits after she refused to endorse the plan.

The only problem with Sen. Lazich’s accusation? It’s not at all based in reality:

But Lazich is dead wrong, the developer, MSP Real Estate, and the Dane County senators or their staff said Wednesday.

MSP’s director of development, Jacob Klein, said he never sought the support of Sen. Fred Risser (D-Madison) and Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) for the New Berlin project. Klein said he did ask them to send letters of support to the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority for MSP proposals in their districts and got their help.

“She’s a little confused with the facts,” Klein said.

Sen. Lazich did note that the developer called her office and told a member of her staff that Sens. Risser and Erpenbach were in support of the development in New Berlin, noting, “That’s a written note I have from staff. It was very clear that the developer called and talked about New Berlin and never said anything about Madison projects.” What I’m left to wonder if which of Sen. Lazich’s crack team of staffers, which includes hyper-partisan far-right wing blogger Kevin Fischer, was responsible for twisting the truth, given the fact that WHEDA spokesperson Kate Venne confirmed Sens. Risser and Erpenback sent letters to WHEDA only in support of projects in their districts.

Sen. Erpenbach said Lazich is wrong and should apologize, adding, “To be honest with you, I don’t know what she’s talking about. I tried to help the developer with a project in my district, but not in New Berlin. Hopefully, the next press release she issues will be an apology.”

For some strange reason I’m betting Sen. Erpenbach will be waiting a long time for an apology from Sen. Lazich.

Earlier today, I wrote about the Popp brothers, who started the devastating Patrick Cudahy fire during a night of barbeque and fireworks. Thanks to an astute reader, I’ve come upon some thoughts from Kevin Fischer, legislative aide to one of Wisconsin’s worst legislators, who seems to think lighting up the sky with fireworks, as the Popp brothers were doing on the night they started the Patrick Cudahy fire, is perfectly acceptable behavior, nevermind the fact that it’s illegal:

Franklin filled with criminals
By Kevin Fischer
July 4, 2009

Plenty in my neighborhood the past few days.

They ignored city ordinances.

They defied state statutes.

Yessiree.

Right out in the open.

Igniting fireworks.

Lighting up the sky.

I’m assuming no busybodies called the Franklin police to complain. There wasn’t a squad car armed with tickets in sight.

As it should be.

I always had Fischer pegged as a “law and order” type of guy, but I guess when it comes to fireworks, he fully supports breaking the law.

What I’m wondering is if Kevin Fischer has the same cavalier attitude towards fireworks in the aftermath of the Patrick Cudahy fire.

Kevin Fischer, a legislative aide to one of Wisconsin’s worst legislators, had the following to say about liberals:

Commandment #1 (and this is really good, especially for those matzo-skinned lefties)…

When asked to explain his remark, Fischer said, “the term matzo was used in this instance to mean “thin.” Nothing more, nothing less.”

What I’m wondering is why Fischer couldn’t bring himself to simply use the phrase “thin-skinned.” Why the need for the ethnic flourish? As The Chief points out, I’ve never heard the adjective “matzo-skinned” to describe anything, leaving me to wonder why Fischer felt the need to resort to a pejorative to make his point.

Laurel Walker has a great opinion piece in the paper; it’s well worth reading, simply because it highlights the plight of State Representative Scott Newcomer, who along with his wife stopped making the mortgage payments on their former Elm Grove home last September after moving into a 1.5 million dollar lake home in Delafield. Rep. Newcomer is quick to offer explanations for his failure to make his mortgage payments, but saying, “We tried to do the right thing all along” seems a little far-fetched, because the “right thing” would have involved making his mortgage payments.

Predictably, conservative blogger (and legislative aide extraordinaire) Kevin Fischer rushed to Rep. Newcomer’s defense, simultaneously attacking Laurel Walker for having the gall to criticize one of his fellow conservatives while also blaming poor minorities for the housing crisis:

Where’s the Walker column on those individuals who took out loans they had no business securing that led the country into the housing crisis, many of them poor minorities? Where’s that column full of gleeful jabs? Where’s that piece admonishing thousands of people and lecturing them that they should have known better?

There’s a lot in Fischer’s statement that can be picked apart, starting with the fact that blame for the housing crisis should fall squarely on the shoulders of lenders, whose lending practices led directly to the housing crisis. What’s more, one could argue that instead of admonishing only “poor minorities,” Fischer should instead admonish lenders, while also heaping a little responsibility on Rep. Newcomer and his wife. After all, if they just moved into a new lake home worth 1.5 million dollars, they can’t be hurting that much, can they?

Personally, I feel more sympathy for the poor minorities who are now struggling to keep their homes – or who have lost their homes – than I do for the State Representative and his doctor wife who just moved into their million and a half dollar home in Delafield, but then again, I tend to have more sympathy for the “little guy” than I do for folks who can afford 1.5 million dollar homes but can’t seem to make their mortgage payments on their second home.

A couple of days ago, I blogged about Greg Howard, the teacher in Florida who asked his students what “change” stood for in relation to the Obama campaign and proceeded to write out the acronym “come help a n****r get elected.”

That same day, Kevin Fischer over at Right View Wisconsin posted an entry blasting teachers for engaging in pro-Obama activities on school time. I posted a link to the story of Greg Howard to make the point that teachers on both sides of the political spectrum are engaging in questionable behavior, with the following comment:

What’s even more disgusting is teachers who engage in politics in their classrooms and use the “N” word in the process

After my comment, readers of RVW were quick to defend the use of the “N” word as being perfectly acceptable (emphasis mine):

I’d say equally disgusting since we don’t know what the pro-BO teachers are calling McCain-Palin.

Why can’t you say nigger? My black friends and co-workers do. Young black men don’t seem to give 2 shits about it.

Not to be outdone, “Steve T.” of RVW posted a series of links to news stories dealing with the use of the “N” word. Now I’m not sure if Steve posted the links in an attempt to justify white folks using the “N” word to describe African-Americans, but if he did, he wasn’t successful, because many of the stories Steve linked to make it clear that the use of the “N” word is just not acceptable.

Now I don’t know whether some of the folks over at RVW are actually racist or not; I’d prefer to believe they just don’t understand the issue as well as they’d like to think.

While she doesn’t come out and say it directly, that’s the impression I get from reading a recent blog entry by State Senator Mary Lazich. Now while one can’t be completely sure if Senator Lazich wrote that blog entry – or if it was written by Kevin Fischer, her loyal aide – it’s curious that Senator Lazich would opine that Wal-Mart should run our health care system, considering the problems Wal-Mart has in running its own health care plan. Here’s just a few points about how well Wal-Mart has administered health care coverage for its employees:

Wal-Mart reported in January 2006 that its health insurance only covers 43% of their 1.39 million employees, leaving over 775,000 employees without health insurance coverage.

Wal-Mart doesn’t even cover as high a percentage of its employees as other large companies. On average for 2005, large companies (200 or more workers) cover approximately 66% of their employees, while Wal-Mart only covers 43%.

Since the average full-time Wal-Mart employee earned $17,114 in 2005, he or she would have to spend between 7 and 25 percent of his or her income just to cover the premiums and medical deductibles, if electing for single coverage.

Between 2000-2005, the cost of premiums rose 169 percent for single coverage and 117 percent for family coverage.

Now maybe I’m crazy, but that doesn’t sound like a health care plan I’d want to be a part of, nor does it sound like a health care plan that’s well administered. Then again, considering the generosity Wal-Mart has shown to Senator Lazich, I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised that she thinks Wal-Mart has done a great job of insuring its employees. If I were her, I wouldn’t want to anger my corporate benefactors either.

I suppose urine is better than beer, especially given Fischer’s past predilections, but still….I how desperate does someone have to be to drink urine?

I also found an interesting link to this little nugget from the latest edition of Murphy’s Law in my emailbox this morning:

-Has controversial legislative aide and Channel 10 pundit Kevin Fischer been discussing the proposal to increase drunk driving penalties without disclosing that he has past violations? Fairly Conservative offers an expose.

Cindy over at Fairly Conservative has done a great job of shining a little light on some of Mr. Fischer’s shenanigans in the blogosphere and as a state employee, and while I haven’t done as much leg work as Cindy, I’ve written a few things on Mr. Fischer as well.

I’ve asked Kevin Fischer if he has any comment on the recent mention in Michael Murphy’s column, but as I write this I have not yet received a response.
