Tuesday news & notes

Busy day today, so here’s some bits of news that caught my eye:

The folks responsible for the Milwaukee Magazine have started a new website, Milwaukee News Buzz. According to the website, Milwaukee News Buzz will summarize all relevant local and state stories by every news outlet, “from the Journal Sentinel to the Business [...]

Tommy should take Sue Ann’s advice…

…and quit while he’s ahead, instead of mounting a challenge to Sen. Russ Feingold:

When I mention recent rumors of a very partisan political race—Tommy Thompson vs. Russ Feingold in the upcoming U.S. Senate election—Sue Ann is candid.

“I try to stay out of it. Does it bother me when people ask questions? No. I can’t tell [...]

Neumann invests $1 million in his gubernatorial campaign

At least he didn’t try to tell folks he “raised” $1 million:

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann said Friday that he has put $1 million of his personal wealth into his campaign for Wisconsin governor.

Neumann, a Republican from Nashotah who has made millions as a homebuilder, said his personal investment would ensure the campaign has enough [...]

Neumann proposes direct ballot initiatives, ignores effect on state budget

Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Neumann has ideas on how to reform the way Wisconsin’s government works, but unfortunately, some of his ideas aren’t really that great. As part of his five point “Strong Wisconsin Reform” plan, Neumann proposes the ‘Let the People Decide’ Reform, which would enable Wisconsin’s citizens to bring initiatives and referenda [...]

How’s this for “logic?”

“Career Politician Mark Neumann off-base with his attack towards Scott Walker”

That’s the title of a recent blog entry by Kyle Maichle of the North Shore Exponent blog. Maichle, a die-hard Scott Walker supporter, seems to think Mark Neumann is a career politician, and when confronted with the fact that Scott Walker has spent more [...]

The Mark Neumann caption contest

I found this photo thanks to Cory Liebmann of Eye on Wisconsin, who just happens to be having a caption contest on a different photo of Mark Neumann. Never one to shy away from a great idea, I thought we could have some fun captioning this photo of Neumann, so have at it!

They remind me of the Washington Generals

In the Wisconsin political arena’s version of Wife Swap, Bruce Pfaff, the architect of Scott Walker’s failed 2006 gubernatorial bid, is now working as the campaign director for former Rep. Mark Neumann’s gubernatorial campaign, while the mastermind behind Neumann’s failed 1998 U.S. Senate campaign, R.J. Johnson, is running the show for Scott Walker’s 2010 gubernatorial [...]

Early polling shows Walker, Barrett leading gov. race

As I’ve said of similar polling, it’s obviously very early, but a new poll shows Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett were the leading gubernatorial candidates for the respective parties:

In the poll’s Democratic primary matchup, Barrett, who is only considering a bid at this point, held a 38%-16% advantage over Lt. [...]
