another message from the email inbox from the Wisconsin Education Association Council:
Future of Public Education in the Balance
Governor Walker’s budget proposal represents yet another radical break from Wisconsin tradition that will dramatically affect educators and students for years to come. Final decisions on the two-year budget are likely to be made within the [...]

The Problem with Merit Pay
In the brave new world of Act 10, many school districts are contemplating “merit pay” or “pay for performance” systems. The following is a WEAC Research Brief summarizing the evidence on merit pay programs for educators. The actual evidence shows:
Merit pay for educators [...]

There’s no doubt in my mind I’ll come under fire in some circles for what I’m about to write, but I think it’s important that as the Democratic gubernatorial primary swings into full gear some Democrats/progressives/liberals don’t rush to form a circular firing squad in order to attack Milwaukee Mayor [...]
There are still many people who are upset that Kathleen Falk has received the endorsements of WEAC / Emily's List and AFSCME / John "Sly "Sylvester , the full membership of IBEW and (most importantly) Yours truly!
Lets look at a few objections:

After WEAC recently “recommended” former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk for Governor, it set off a little firestorm of protest from both sides. I said everyone should just relax and let this play out. I stand by that with a little update.

Scott Walker is certified.
In a related story, Dan Bice [...]
With the right driving hard on the “It’s Working” meme as a clever description for Walker’s failing policies, I think it’s important to review one of the original Big Lies told by the Satraps of Fitzwalkerstan: Public Employees Need To Pay For Their Pensions and Healthcare!
In a report today, PolitiFact thought they caught WEAC being less than honest about the School Administrators report. However, if you dig beneath the number, they’re far more honest than Walker was when he was caught lying about the same report. So honest, in fact, I’d evaluate it as true.
Just a couple of endorsement-related tidbits that caught my eye:
Milwaukee County Supervisor Chris Larson, who’s running to unseat fellow Democrat Jeff Plale in 7th Wisconsin Senate District, received another endorsement of his candidacy by a fellow County Supervisor, with County Supervisor Gerry Broderick endorsing Larson’s candidacy. Broderick’s district includes the east side of Milwaukee, [...]
