Conservatives, Get Some New Talking Points…

…because the ones you’re using are tired.

Case in point? These comments culled from some of the comments I’ve received in response to my blog entries.

First up are these comments from “Notalib” in this thread (emphasis mine):

it is great that we have organizations like this. We need to start returning America to a country of morals and values and as long as we allow progressives to run unchecked this country will continue to destroy what once was a great country.

Take a good long look at that comment, then compare it with this gem from “El Gato” in a completely different thread (emphasis mine):

Zach I knew you were a flaming phony liberal Democrat! You and your kind are going to be the ruin of a once great country. My only consolation is that while you ruin it for the good people, you will also have to bear the consequences. Need an example? The German people who cheered Hitler into power paid the price. That’s the case in every socialist country on record!

Seriously folks, it’s time to pull out some new talking points, and please try to be just a little bit original. It gets boring hearing the same tired talking points from conservatives, and it really makes me wonder if those folks who repeat these nearly identical talking points are able to form thoughts for themselves.

And just for the record, it isn’t liberals and “our kind” who’ve ruined what was once a great nation; I’d argue our nation was ruined by over a decade of Republican control of the House and Senate, combined with a Republican in the White House. Further, I’d argue that the U.S. is still a great nation, as opposed to being “once great.”

  1. I guess El Gato no sabe Godwin’s Law. That law of USENET discussions was that by making reference to Hitler or the Nazis, you had immediately, automatically and irreconcilably ended the discussion. Unfortunately, the days of USENET are long since passed. I can only hope Godwin’s Law is still respected in some parts, beyond just me, the USENET old-timer.

  2. That’s what we need. More of what’s killing us.

Glad none of them are doctors.

  3. capper, I’m not sure. I tend to think America’s still a great country. Sure, there’s some work to be done to make it better, but I still think it’s a great country.
