Why Was Deb a Democrat?

Back in June, I blogged about Deb Bartoshevich, a disgruntled supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton who chose to support Republican Sen. John McCain rather than support Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. As a result of her decision to support McCain, Bartoshevich was stripped of her status as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and it seemed that was the end of the story, until this week.

The McCain campaign unveiled a new ad starring Bartoshevich, who claims to be a “proud Hillary Clinton Democrat” who’s supporting Sen. McCain for president. What’s curious to me is Bartoshevich’s claim to be a “proud Hillary Clinton Democrat,” despite her statement earlier today that she no longer considers herself a Democrat:

Later in the news conference, Bartoshevich said she no longer considers herself a Democrat. Asked if she were a Republican, she said: “I am an independent.”

What I’d like to know is why Deb Bartoshevich ever considered herself a Democrat to begin with. Does she support a woman’s right to choose? Does she support healthcare for all Americans? Does she support an end to the conflict in Iraq? These are questions I’d love to ask Deb Bartoshevich, because I’d love to know if she’d answer yes to any of those questions. Moreover, if she would answer yes to any of those questions, then I’d love to know how she can support a candidate in John McCain who’s opposed to all those positions.

What’s more, I’d love to know if this is really just a matter of sour grapes because her candidate didn’t end up as the nominee.

So here’s my question…why was Deb a Democrat….does anyone know?

  1. Obama has no and never will have a health care plan. Read his economic plan, no funding of health care. The $2500 savings includes technological advances from the past 10 years. He assumes that hospital and insurance savings will all go to consumers, please.

If you have drunken the kool aid, fine. Its your bed, sleep in it. But please do not have the audacity to argue on an issue that Obama spent 6 months running from.

As far as abortion, I think McCain is a safer bet. At least with him the Democrats will be a more forceful opposition. Liberals love to say we will stand up to The One once he has been elected. Give me a frickin break.

Me, I would not give any of those two idiots the time of day. As far as I’m concerned this is one of those Washington open primary things. We have two Republicans in the race and either way we’re screwed.

  2. Oh God, will this ever die?
I posted my take on Deb over at blue racine. I think I’m one of the only people involved in Democratic politics that actually knows her personally.
Honest, she didn’t just go off her rocker, she was pushed. I’m ashamed she didn’t have the intelligence to see what she was being dragged into.
And, the spite bit, that is definitely towards the actual party. And, they could have handled it a lot differently and this would be a non-story now.

I have a bumper sticker on one side of my bumper that says “I miss Clinton” and I’m putting one on the other side that says “Obama 08”. I think that’s the way to keep true to your beliefs while not forgetting Hillary’s contributions to the country.

Also, there is an old movie being shown rather often on cable lately called “The Best Man” with Henry Fonda which shows the way the conventions were really held not so long ago. I suggest that movie to anyone wanting to know why Hillary didn’t drop out sooner. btw it’s rated with 4 stars.

  3. Kay, it would be dead already if the Obama folks had handled things correctly, and if Deb Bartoshevich would refuse to allow herself to continue to be manipulated.

But as I said in my post, I’d love to know why Deb considered herself to be a Democrat in the first place, and I’d love to know how she reconciles her beliefs with her support for a man who most likely doesn’t support those beliefs.
