My thoughts on the XM-Sirius merger

I’ll admit I had reservations about the merger of XM and Sirius, the two satellite radio companies, simply because I was concerned about which channels would stay and which channels would go once the merger was completed, and while some folks still aren’t sold on the merger, I’m liking what I’m hearing thus far.

After the shakeup of XM’s channels was completed, I was pleased to find POTUS, XM’s political news and talk channel, had made the cut and was still on the air. Despite my status as an OMG FLAMING LIBRUL, I appreciate the pretty unbiased coverage of our nation’s political scene by POTUS, and I’m glad it made the cut.

It’s just too bad the newly merged XM didn’t get rid of all those kooky right-wing talk channels…

  1. I had just the Sirius package and found POTUS to be a great new political forum. On Sirius you might be interested in Sirius Left. They have Bill Press, Lynn Samuels, Bruce ? (lives in upper MN). They also have 2 NPR channels as well. But I like to balance so I also listen to the right side of the dial with Sirius Right (although even Allen Colmbs is on this one). Also the music side has gotten considerably better in the last few days. As a guy that travels all over the Midwest satellite is the way to go.

  2. Well it’s just another thing people complain about not having money or it’s such a bad economy, yet think they need to have ‘essentials’ like cable tv, cell phones, etc.

Kind of like students who have no problem throwing down money for beer or spring break, but it’s some great injustice that they have to pay for books, some part of cost of their education, and campus services — those are somehow “rights” they should be given for free.

I apologize to you for singling you out or being critical of your personal budget. But it just got me on a rant of how people can complain, while still seeing no problem about paying for the add-ons.

  3. forgot, there’s no need to apologize. However, I want to make it clear that when I blog about the current state of our economy, I’m not necessarily blogging about my own personal experiences with the economy, but rather from the perspective of someone who’s deeply concerned about how bad things are or could become for so many of us.

I’ve been fortunate that despite having a wife in school full time over the past four years, we’ve still been able to make ends meet and have a little money left over for a few “creature comforts” for us and our kids.
