Alderman Michael Toman: Idiot of the Week

Oak Creek Alderman Michael Toman is my Idiot of the Week.

You might be asking yourself why, and the answer is easy. Toman is my idiot of the week for trying to exact a little bar room justice on Friday night against another patron of the American Legion hall in Oak Creek. Toman, who’s been charged with felony aggravated battery, is alleged to have pushed and severely injured a 64 year-old man outside of the American Legion hall, leaving that man in a coma with an intercranial hemorrhage.

No matter what the victim may have done earlier to warrant his removal from the American Legion hall, he certainly didn’t deserve to be attacked from behind by Michael Toman and left in a coma. I hope Alderman Toman is held accountable for his actions, but for now, I’ll have to settle for naming him my Idiot of the Week.

  1. It was not from behind, the old man back peddled. At least there are a few MEN in the world left that will protect a 60+ year old woman from a drunken bully. It was a terrible accident. They should have tossed him furthur so he hit the snow. Maybe if he wasn’t so loaded, he would have caught himself. Accidents happen, thank God people still care enough to get involved. What would your comment be if he sat at the bar and watch the old drunk beat the hell out of his wife and do nothing? Then he would be a coward and a wimp.
    Get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Patricia, it wasn’t an accident; Toman pushed the man down. He intentionally pushed the man to the ground, putting the man in a coma. While the man’s behavior inside the Legion Hall was obviously inappropriate, do you believe that behavior warranted bleeding on the brain and a coma?

If Michael Toman was so concerned about the man’s behavior inside the Legion Hall, he had an easy option: call the police. That’s what reasonable people do; they don’t “settle the score” themselves.

  3. The whole matter hinges on whether the amount of force used was justified. From the films seen on TV, I have serious doubt whether it was. The injured man did not appear to pose an imminent threat at the time Toman pushed him, outside the hall. That film won’t be the whole story, but it hardly casts Toman in a good light.

  4. I just heard on the news that Marty has died. I think this should cause the alderman to face murder charges as that is what happens in other cases of this type.

  5. Sallie, I don’t know if Toman will face any new criminal charges now that the victim has died, but it would be nice to see him held accountable for his actions.

  6. I don’t agree with you, Zach. I think the man was abusive in the bar and Toman and some other men escorted him out, pushed him (but not hard), and the man fell because he was so intoxicated he could keep his balance. Had he not been so drunk I think he would have stay on his feet. I am certain Toman did not intend for the man to fall down and get hurt. It’s sad the man got hurt and has now died but sometimes when you become intoxicated and act abusive towards others bad thing happen. It’s not like he was an immature young man who didn’t know better. Honestly, I feel sorry for Toman.

  7. Oh, and I do agree with you in theory about calling the police but I know I could never sit back and wait for the police to arrive if someone is getting hurt right in front of me. It’s just not in me.

  8. Sorry…I meant to say he was so intoxicated he *couldn’t* keep his balance and that had he not been so drunk he would have *stayed* on his feet. You know…sometimes when I reread my comments and I wonder how in the heck did I ever graduate from HS.

  9. anyone who knows the family can tell you that if you needed to get a hold of martin or his wife you call the “post”. They were behind on their house payment and waiting to be foreclosed on. He was losing his business or had all ready lost it for not paying his bills. The whole story of their history should be considered. Should the family really be able to cash in on what damage they had already caused themselves? As a family friend it is very upsetting to read the news articles and know the truth.

  10. bob, what does the victim’s family’s financial situation have to do with Michael Toman’s actions? The fact is, Michael Toman pushed the victim to the ground, and as a result that man is now deceased. Perhaps if Michael Toman had done the right thing as a citizen and had called the police instead of taking matters into his own hands, he wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in.
