Belling lied….no shock there

Yesterday I wrote about Mark Belling’s promise to vote for Jim Doyle in 2010 if Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby. Lo and behold, Mine That Bird did win the Kentucky Derby, but not surprisingly, Belling has changed his promise, now adding conditions that must be met in order for Jim Doyle to get Belling’s vote in 2010.

I know Mark Belling’s just trying to save face after being made to look like a horse’s hind-end, but he shouldn’t make promises he does’t intend on keeping. In my book, that’s called lying.

  1. I don’t know if one could ever say that Belling “promised” that he would never bet on a race again or that he would indeed vote for Jim Doyle in the next election.

Even if one does say that Belling promised to do this, he also did point out someone that is paid by Wisconsin taxpayers has done a complete about-face with his promise on taxes. Doyle has indeed raised every conceivable fee and tax that is not an income tax. Mark Belling may have been speaking fecetiously about his pick (hardly a no-tax increase pledge), but Doyle was certainly not speaking in this manner about his tax policy in 2002.

I would not be one to trust Mark Belling to make good on an offer to vote for Jim Doyle just because a 50 to 1 horse ran the race of his life and won the Kentucky Derby. However, if he is indeed a liar in not voting for Doyle, he is simply in the company of one of the idols of Wisconsin liberal cronies: Jim Doyle. When you guys start calling elected officials on their lies in an manner that is not so obviously slanted, then call out a commentator on not owning up to his own promises.

  2. Belling DIDN’T lie! Even you must see the humor! I, for one, am wondering if he will now own up to his claim and write in a vote for Jim Doyle now that Doyle is not running.
