This year’s Milwaukee County Executives’ Ride (For Votes) has drawn the ire of several supervisors who don’t like the idea that AirTran, a major county airport tenant, is putting up funds for Scott Walker’s motorcycle event. Those supervisors (Chris Larson, Marina Dimitrijevic, and John Weishan, Jr.)
While Scott Walker has said the motorcycle tour is an attempt on his part to promote Milwaukee County and encourage tourism to the county, it’s worth noting Walker is using his gubernatorial campaign staff to advance and coordinate the motorcycle trip. The involvement of Walker’s gubernatorial campaign staff clearly politicizes the entire tour, casting into doubt Walker’s stated reason for the tour. If this tour was really all about promoting Milwaukee County – as Walker has stated – then why the need for his gubernatorial campaign staff, and why the need to use non-County email to work out the details? The fact is, Scott Walker has crossed the line, and he should be held accountable.
