Here’s a question:
If Congressional Republicans hate government-run health care so much, why don’t they give up their Congressional health insurance plans and find health insurance on their own?

One Congressman has, but he’s not a Republican. He’s Wisconsin’s own Steve Kagen.
It’s not government run. They have a choice and many options of who will provide their insurance (Private insurance companies). They don’t have to have just a few plans offered by a single provider like an employer provided health plan would be. Their insurance ROCKS!!! Why do you think the democrats don’t want to be included in HR3200… They don’t want to give up the Ducati for the Vespa….
E, if only someone in Congress would propose some sort of, I don’t know, Health Insurance Exchange, that would give normal people and the nation’s employers a wider variety of choices, too. Sigh …
Jay, why does a Health Insurance Exchange sound so familiar?
It’s not government-run insurance. It’s insurance provided by their employer, which in this case happens to be the U.S. Government.
A better question to ask is, if they pass a health care bill, will the Congress be put under the plan or will they exempt themselves?
Zach, I must say I’m rather disappointed at the lack of understanding by asking this question.
Question: What role does the federal government play in the healcare of Senators & Representatives?
Answer: It hands out money. The government picks up the tab – two-thirds of the premium for the private health insurance chosen by the members of Congress.
Locke, I understand it just fine; my point was made by Folkbum, who pointed out that the health care reform plan proposed in the House isn’t much different than what Congresspersons already receive.
Ala carte and the public option are not at all the same thing or even similar. Again, the only thing the government does for Congress is pay. The government is heavily involved in the exchange.
Here’s a question following the President’s speech the other night…
If Medicare has hundreds of billions of waste and fraud, why should we believe the government can do any better with a with an enormous expansion?
