Yesterday I wrote about Republican Senate candidate Dave Westlake’s attack on Sen. Russ Feingold for using two out-of-state firms as part of his internet presence. At the time, I noted Westlake’s hypocrisy, given the fact that Westlake’s Senate campaign has paid out-of-state companies hundreds – if not thousands – of dollars for campaign-related printing and advertising materials.
However, after a little more investigating, I found out an interesting fact about the website for High IQ, the small business owned by Dave Westlake: it was designed and is hosted by Volusion, a company based out of Texas. What I’m left wondering is why Dave Westlake has a problem with Sen. Feingold’s use of out-of-state companies for Feingold’s campaign website, while Westlake himself can’t even bother to use a Wisconsin company for his small business’ website. I find it hard to believe there’s not a single company in Wisconsin that could do for High IQ what a Texas-based company is doing, and I think it’s a shame Dave Westlake can’t seem to live by his own words.
After all, if Dave Westlake really wants to “[B]e a leader and represent the good people of Wisconsin, the least [he] could do is show confidence in their capabilities and support their efforts to live the American Dream,” and that extends to Wisconsin’s fine web design and internet service providers.
Excuse me, but shouldn’t we be focused on things that matter? I am more interested in how each candidate will reduce spending. This side circus stuff is a waste of time.
