State Treasurer to have primary opponent

Dawn Marie Sass, the current State Treasurer, will have a primary opponent in 2010, as Dan Bohrod announced his candidacy on Monday. Sass, a first-term Democrat, has been plagued with questions lately over a backlog in processing unclaimed property claims, her decision to force out her chief deputy, and her decision to hire her niece for a part-time summer job. According to his press release, Bohrod says he was motivated to run in part over those recent problems. Bohrod is a budget analyst for the City of Madison and was formerly a policy analyst for the state departments of Public Instruction and Corrections.

With one announced Republican challenger and a Democratic primary challenger, Dawn Marie Sass could be in for quite a fight to keep her office in 2010.

  1. So Mr Dan Bohrod wants to be State Treasurer… And on the Democratic Ticket no less! Must be nice to be Johnny Come Lately joining the Democratic Party in 2009 just to run for this office Dan. Dawn has run her butt of to make this a better office than it was and you think you can work more hours in the week than she does? Not in your life. Dawn has been around the entire state three times to all 72 counties doing what needs to be done to improve the Office of State Treasurer. Dawn has worked for Child Protective Services in Milwaukee County (AFSME) at the same time working for Aurora as a Pharmacy Tech plus worked for JC Penneys during the Holidays. You will never find a harder working woman in your life time and will never out work her for even a day. She has earned our support and our votes.

    1. Al, would you agree that having a primary election often helps to make the candidates better show why they deserve to hold office?

  2. Jason, I spent 14 years as an election commissioner for MKE and have not found a worse way to split the party vote. It has caused many hard feelings within the ranks, back stabbings, lies, hate and discontent. Sounds more like the “Antipublicans” than Democrats to me. Those roomers of wrong doing have already hit the papers with no substance or merit.
