Stay classy, Dave Westlake

By now you’ve no doubt heard about Republican Congressman Joe Wilson’s classless heckling of President Barack Obama during President Obama’s health care address to the nation, as well as the condemnation of Rep. Wilson’s heckling from elected officials from both parties, but have you heard the comments from Wisconsin Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave Westlake in the wake of Rep. Wilson’s classless heckling?

In a Twitter update at 7:06 a.m. this morning, Westlake made it clear he supports Rep. Wilson’s heckling of President Obama:

dbwestlake: O said: “If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out.” That’s what Joe Wilson did. http://is.gd/36C4b (via @michellemalkin)

Curiously enough, shortly after posting the update on Twitter, Westlake removed it, presumably because he realized how stupid it made him look to agree with a classless Congressman from South Carolina who’s been roundly condemned by officials from both parties. However, despite Westlake’s removal of the Tweet in question, he’s receiving Tweets giving him kudos for supporting Rep. Wilson:

He sure does! The GOP needs to lead! @dbwestlake Great to hear you’re standing behind @congjoewilson ! He deserves it! (via @wickedpoptart)about 2 hours ago from Twitterrific

Here’s what I’m wondering: If Dave Westlake is the REAL leader he seems to think Wisconsin deserves from their Senator, then why is he afraid to stand behind his own words, whether they’re popular or not? After all, real leadership means standing behind your words, no matter how unpopular those words may be. Further, if Congressman Joe Wilson is Dave Westlake’s idea of a “real leader,” then that speaks volumes about what kind of “leader” Dave Westlake would be in the unlikely event he were elected to the U.S. Senate.

However, there’s one thing Dave Westlake is absolutely right about: Wisconsinites do deserve REAL leadership in the United States Senate, and that’s what they’re getting – and will continue to get – from Senator Russ Feingold.

  1. “Joe the Congressman” seems to be staking out the same turf as Joe the Plumber, but there is no question that he’s having a big impact. Who else could have single-handedly raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for his opponent, Rob Miller, in less than 24 hours?

    1. Yeah, Rep. Wilson’s done a heck of a job fundraising for his opponent! That should be an interesting Congressional race, to say the least.

  2. zack how did you feel when the libs heckeled bush in 2004 i’ll bet you thought that was all good. If I were A betting man Wilson gets much more in donations then miller.

    1. ray, when did the Democrats yell out “you lie” during any of Bush’s addresses to Congress? I’m betting you can’t answer that question, because the answer is that Democrats never did to President Bush what Rep. Wilson did to President Obama last night.

  3. Zack does the truth hurt? So wilson can tell the truth and libs hate him for it. The libs can boo and heckel GW and thats ok. The proof is in the bill. Obama is A liar.

    1. ray, you’re quite the comedian!

What they’ll remember is Rep. Wilson making an ass of himself, and they’ll also remember President Obama making it clear what he expects to see from health reform legislation.

  4. Zack whats the difference disrespect is disrespect. One idiot calls Obama A liar A hole room full of idiots heckeled bush A room full Zack A very large room full

    1. The fact that you don’t see the difference between calling the president a liar while he’s addressing the nation and what Democrats did in 2005 speaks volumes.
