Kowalski to run for alderman

From my emailbox comes news Greg Kowalski, a blogger and community leader, has announced his candidacy for the 1st District Aldermanic seat in Franklin. Here’s the text of his press release:

COMMUNITY LEADER GREG KOWALSKI JUMPS INTO RACE FOR 1ST DISTRICT ALDERMAN

PROMISES TO MAKE FRANKLIN GOVERNMENT MORE EFFICIENT

(Franklin, WI)—As families all across Franklin continue to struggle against rising unemployment, rising taxes, and ineffective government, Franklin community leader Greg Kowalski announces he is running for alderman in the city’s first district.

Kowalski is a noted community leader and writer, reporting on city budget and development issues. He led the fight earlier this fall for an aquatics center/community pool to be built in Franklin. During 2007-2008 he served as an Environmental Commissioner for the city and upon leaving was its Acting Chairman. Serving on the commission, Kowalski helped Franklin taxpayers keep the natural look and feel of the community. In 2007-2008 he served in AmeriCorps promoting and protecting the Franklin Savanna State Natural Area, a rare natural habitat in the southwestern portion of the city.

“I want to ensure that Franklin taxpayers don’t have to pay for ineffective programs, while ensuring new smart development and jobs come to our wonderful city” said Kowalski.

The first district is located in the middle of the City of Franklin.

Kowalski is facing an entrenched incumbent, so that should be a race worth watching.
