Whitewater wins Division III championship

For the second time in three years, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater are the Division III football national champions, defeating defending champion Mount Union 38-28 yesterday. Levell Coppage had three touchdowns for the Warhawks, while Jeff Donovan threw for two touchdowns. The Warhawks ended the season with a perfect record, and yesterday’s victory by Whitewater snapped Mount Union’s 29-game win streak.

I’m always proud of the fact that I’m a Whitewater alum, but today I’m just a little more proud…

  1. It was really a good and interesting game to watch. The first half, WW could do no wrong offensively, just completely dominating the game. Then the second half, they couldn’t score or even move the ball consistently at all. All of the momentum was going Mount Union’s way & it just felt like it was not meant to be. Especially when WW got a big break with a fumble recovery – and couldn’t do anything with it and had to punt. But the kids dug deep & came up with a great defensive stand, put another TD on the board and then shut down the MU offense one last time to lock up the win.
