Feingold’s fiscal responsibility

Here’s an interesting fact for all those conservatives who like to attack U.S. Senator Russ Feingold: U.S. Senator Russ Feingold has never requested an earmark during his time as Wisconsin’s Junior U.S. Senator.

Here’s another interesting fact for those same folks: according to the group Citizens Against Government Waste, earmarks alone accounted for $19.6 billion in government spending in fiscal year 2009.

I don’t know about you, but $19.6 billion a year is a lot of money, and it’s just a shame more members of Congress don’t show the restraint Sen. Feingold shows when it comes to earmarks.

    1. The fact that you’re hoping for Tommy Thompson to ride into Wisconsin and rescue the GOP’s hopes in the U.S. Senate race speaks volumes about the quality of the two announced candidates. However, even if Tommy does jump in, he’s damaged goods, and I don’t put much stock in Rasmussen’s polls, as they tend to favor Republicans.

  1. Well if Tommy does not jump in Fiengold will still be beat by Terrence Wall. Have you seen his tv adds, you should have they are on every 10 min or so. If Obama is insane enough to go after healthcare again and ignore 10% unemployment Fiengold will suffer for it.

Would you like to come to a Tea Party in Eau Claire. We would be happy to have you!

    1. Kent, just because Terrence Wall is running TV ads – ads which have been widely debunked as being misleading – doesn’t mean he’s going to win. After all, Sen. Feingold hasn’t started to run ads yet, and Terrence Wall’s already got plenty of baggage to contend with.

      1. I was kind of thinking that running TV ads in February is a little desperate. November is a long ways off, who is thinking about the November election besides dorks like us? I would think Wall’s money would be better spent closer to the election. This I could be wrong about though.

        1. Well, there’s the timing, but there’s also the fact that Terrence Wall used his first TV ad buy to go negative on Feingold instead of using it to introduce himself to Wisconsin’s voters.

  2. Zach, don’t forget that earmarks only account for 1% of the federal budget, something the media and Democrats were fond of pointing out in 2008 when making fun of John McCain for talking about earmarks.

I will give Sen. Feingold credit for never asking for an earmark, but what other examples do you have that makes him fiscally responsible? Does he have a plan to reform our big entitlement programs?

Also, I find it funny that you say $19 billion is a lot of money in the scope of the federal budget, given the other things you seem to support. To you and me it’s alot, but not when the government is spending trillions in deficit spending. It’s almost as laughable as Obama’s plan to cut a few billion and “freeze” a small part of the budget, in hopes people will call it fiscal responsibility.

  3. “widely debunked as being misleading” by whom? Daily Kos, MSNBC? The adds state the facts, Feingold is a career politician who is out of touch with his constituents.

    1. Kent, you keep saying Sen. Feingold is out of touch with his constituents, which doesn’t make much sense considering a majority of Wisconsin’s voters sent Sen. Feingold to Washington knowing full well what he stood for and what he wanted to do as their Senator.

      1. That was then and this is now. He has continued to show that he is not interested in what his constituents are saying! An example of this is his I am not listening sessions!

  4. Yes, the article presents the writers opinion who clearly exhibits no understanding of healthcare policy or knowledge of either the senate or house healthcare bills. So tell me again how his justifies the “widely debunked and misleading” comment?

Oh, must be like global warming, some no name with an opinion whose ideas become fact.

    1. Calling either of the health-care bills a “government takeover” is a scare tactic, not based in reality. A government takeover would be single-payer, nothing less.

    2. Kent, have you read the entire health care reform bill that Sen. Feingold voted for? I ask because you seem to think you’re an expert on the fact that it contains a takeover of health care.

  5. Well I guess if you believe this you will also believe that the proposed health care plan is not going to cost Americans either! If you want to talk about earmarks lets talk about all of these government bailouts that this president and the last have handed out!
