  1. What was it that I read on a local conservative blog…something about liberals better have good dental insurance (or something along those lines).

    1. Not sure where you read that, but it’s certainly in keeping with what’s been going on since health care reform was signed into law.

    2. I just read that comment, and I’m not at all shocked that the folks at Badger Blogger would condone that sort of language, because they seem to promote those kinds of “bomb throwing” comments, despite what their comment policy says. To be honest, it’s laughable that BB has a comment policy, considering what they’ve allowed to be posted.

      1. Yes, that is the one. I also just read your recent comment on BB and the response from “Paul”. Isn’t it interesting how many of the commenters on BB are government employees who bash other government employees. Many of them are by their own admissions cops or retired cops. Let me just say this…I have five family members who are cops…two who are very close to me…and not a single one of them act or behave the way these cops do on BB. The cops on BB give cops a bad name. It disgusts me. I hope people who read their garbage don’t think all cops think the way the ones on BB do. They are disgruntled and instead of being part of the solution they choose to be part of the problem. They are whiners! If I lived in the City of Milwaukee and I needed the assistance of the cops and they sent any of these cops who comment on BB to help me I would tell them to get lost. I’d rather deal with whatever is happening on my own. That is how much I think these cops should be flipping burgers instead of being given the power a badge and gun gives them.

        1. Anon, the folks who run Badger Blogger condone the kind of personal attacks and juvenile name calling that’s so common over there, because they’re not interested in having an honest debate; they’d rather hurl insults to make themselves feel better by tearing others down.

  2. What I want to know is why Mike Vanderboegh isn’t walking the walk and committing acts of civil disobedience and getting arrested himself. He clearly wants others to act the martyr for the cause but is unwilling to make the same sacrifice personally. What a coward.

    1. OJ, you’re exactly right. If he’s willing to encourage others to engage in criminal behavior, he himself should be willing to “walk the walk.”

  3. It’s interesting that the cartoon you chose uses a brick and a window to illustrate its point. I think the state Republican Party offices have been vandalized a time or two (i.e. every election year) with smashed windows and graffiti.

Or how about this story from Madison a few years ago:
“Swastika Burned Into Grass On Bush-Cheney Supporter’s Lawn”

And let’s not forget the infamous Milwaukee incident: “Tires slashed on 20 GOP vehicles” to disenfrachise elderly voters.

I’m sure you will say you don’t condone this behavior on either side, but are you as vocal?

      1. I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean links to the stories I referenced? Otherwise, no, I do not have any personal links as I do not run a blog. But I am betting you and many of these liberal blogs were not so up in arms when these incidents and threats were directed at Bush and Republicans.

        1. Well…here is you chance to be vocal. How do you feel about the threats that are being made against liberals?

          1. Anon, thanks for giving me the chance. Of course I think personal threats, attacks, and threatened and actual violence is wrong. I believe in a battle of ideas. You win by getting those people out of office. I think you will find these idiots on both sides and part of any group. They only hurt their argument and should be doing something constructive, like registering people to vote or knocking on doors or something.

Remember, Martin Luther King advocated peaceful resistance but there were those in the movement that advocated “by any means necessary.” I bring up this example to show that within any movement, there are those who will take it too far.

I think all of my comments on this board reflect the above sentiment. I have always disagreed with ideas, but have not supported those who take it to hatred of personalities.

            1. forgot, you’ve done a heck of a job of standing up for what you believe in on this blog, and though you and I don’t see eye to eye on much, I respect the fact that you’re able to express your opinion without resorting to childish insults and personal attacks.

              1. Thanks Zach. One of the reasons I continue to read and participate in your blog is because I respect you for the same reasons. Once in a while emotions take over and things get heated, but that’s only natural in passionate and sincere debate. However, I do wish there was more civility in politics all around. The old “well they did it to us so now we can do it to them” philosophy gets us nowhere. I think when insults and attacks are used they only diminish the argument being made.

    1. forgot, the last incident of vandalism by liberals against Republicans that I can recall was the incident in 2004 involving Rep. Gwen Moore’s son here in Milwaukee. Considering the fact that this blog has only been in existence since 2007, I didn’t really have the opportunity to write about that.

However, if you can point out a more recent example, I’d love to hear it.

    1. And for every link you’ve provided, I could provide a link to stories of violence or threats against Democrats. These behaviors aren’t exclusive to one end of the political spectrum or the other.

      1. Aside from making no sense whatsoever, the last sentence of your comment is completely inappropriate and unwelcome. Have a nice day.

        1. forgot…I’m sure this is the same troll from the other day. It’s best not to feed them…but I agree with you…except for the “have a nice day” part.

  4. Exactly my point Zach.

Listening to the ranting left’s rhetoric right now you would not know that there are violent extremists on the left.

They are trying to take a few isolated incidents and trying to frame them to a larger group. Your Democrat state chair wants to label everyone who has attended a rally a KKK member for cryin out loud.

Let’s be honest, there are people on both sides who take things too far. we should denounce all of them and label them for what they are, individuals whose actions do not necessarily speak anything about a larger movement.
