While some conservatives in Wisconsin are positively giddy at the prospect of former governor Tommy Thompson speaking at an anti-tax rally today in Madison, at least one conservative, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave Westlake, isn’t exactly thrilled at the thought of Thompson hijacking today’s rally in order to make an announcement about his rumored U.S. Senate run:
“He’s using a platform that’s supposed to be about rallying around a common cause to reduce the size of government, to lower spending and lower taxes and he’s using it for his own personal announcement,” Westlake said. “He’s not the tea party movement. He’s a big spender and did a lot of things that was the antithesis of what people in the tea party want.”
At least Dave Westlake and I have one thing in common – neither of us seem to be big fans of Tommy Thompson.
Tommy really isn’t doing the GOP candidates any favors doing the will-he-won’t-he dance. That would irritate me if I had a stake.
You do have a stake Jim! It doesn’t matter who you vote for, the important thing is you have passion and so many people in Wisconsin have given up taking a stand for what they believe in. You matter more than you might think. The GOP has big problems right now, they still think they can continue the failed leadership of the past and don’t want it to end. I’m a life long conservative, and although you and I might vote differently we are still one in the same, we are Americans, and we love our country.

Dave Westlake will be at Drinking Liberally Milwaukee next week. I’m sure he’ll have some things to say about this then.
I sure hope he will!
Say hi for me, wish I could be there.
