Jaylin Fleming, a fifth-grader from Chicago, is a pretty remarkable kid. At only 10 years old, Fleming is widely considered to be the best player in the country for his age. Check out his skills:
Pretty amazing stuff, but it’ll be interesting to see if Jaylin Fleming stays humble and doesn’t burn out as he matures and the basketball vultures start circling.
He sure is amazing! But…you know…my daughter was amazing at that age too (and still is)…so what if her dad and I had to yell to her from the stands “you’re on defense” or “you’re on offense” during the games… 🙂
All children should be amazing to the ones who love them and I think that is the key to their future success!
I think the most interesting thing was the dad’s point about not having a basketball hoop at home – that home is where you do all the other things in life. I wonder, to what degree that makes things more serious – more work-like. Having a hoop in the driveway where you can practice and probably goof around a lot – versus going to an actual gym/court to work. That said, creating a separation between basketball and home is probably a healthy approach – for both kid and parent. Granted he had an indoor hoop for playing & goofing around, but I think that’s a fair distinction.
Anyway, like I said, I really found that part of it interesting & made me stop to think about it.
