Leinenkugel to run as an independent?

Over at the blog Robace World, it’s being reported that according to conservative talk radio host Vicki McKenna, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dick Leinenkugel may withdraw from the Republican Senate primary to run as an Independent. This is the first I’ve heard of any rumored independent run by Leinenkugel, and as I noted in a comment at Robace World, it wouldn’t make a lick of sense for Dick Leinenkugel to drops his plans to run as a Republican and instead run as an independent U.S. Senate candidate.

While I see some logic in Leinenkugel deciding to run as an independent, given the less than warm welcome he’s gotten from conservatives after he announced his candidacy, it’s not as if the less than enthusiastic reception he’s received came out of nowhere. Dick Leinenkugel had to know when he made his decision to run for the U.S. Senate that he’d be fighting an uphill battle to convince conservatives he was more than just a Republican in name only (RINO), so I’m betting he’ll stay in the Republican U.S. Senate race until the bitter end.

As a sidenote, I tried Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy for the first time this weekend, and it’s not nearly as bad as I had expected.

  1. Nobody ever relies on McKenna for hard news. She’s more the “wishful thinking” kind of entertainer.
