Some Senate news & notes

Just a few Senate race-related tidbits to start your day…

  • Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson is definitely entering the Republican U.S. Senate primary field, as he’s hiring campaign staff. Johnson will join a crowded field of Republicans that includes Madison-area multimillionaire Terrence Wall, former Doyle administration Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel, and Watertown small businessman Dave Westlake.
  • Speaking of Dave Westlake, I had a chance to sit down with him last week, and I’ll have my thoughts on that meeting posted early next week, so keep an eye out!
  • And finally, Constitution Party senate candidate Rob Taylor issued a press release yesterday calling for “all the people and companies of Wisconsin to boycott the City of St. Paul, Minnesota not only as a response to the recent ban on travel to Arizona by city departments ordered by Mayor Chris Coleman on April 28th , but also as a possible safety concern for the people of Wisconsin.” Taylor cited higher crime and higher unemployment rates in cities that receive the largest numbers of illegal aliens as reasons why visitors to St. Paul should feel unsafe. At first I thought Taylor’s press release was a joke, but given the fact that April Fool’s was last month, he must be serious.
