The “bare formality of a primary”

Apparently, the folks at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel don’t think too much of the candidacy of Republican Dave Westlake, who along with Ron Johnson is hoping to win the Republican Party’s nomination to be the loser to Sen. Russ Feingold in November (emphasis mine):

Though Johnson still has the bare formality of a primary, he took a clear hold on his party’s nomination Thursday after his GOP primary opponent, Terrence Wall, dropped out of the U.S. Senate race.

The “bare formality of a primary” the MJS refers to is actually Dave Westlake, who doesn’t even merit a mention by name until the tenth paragraph of the article in the MJS.

Looks like the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel doesn’t think too much of Dave Westlake’s chances of beating Ron Johnson in the Republican U.S. Senate primary.
