Walker speaks out against Arizona illegal immigration law, then flip-flops hours later

Something tells me Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker is going to have some ‘splainin’ to do….

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said in a statement that he has serious concerns about the Arizona law empowering police to question and arrest anyone they suspect is in the U.S. illegally.

His stance was the most definitive of any of the three major gubernatorial candidates, all of whom were asked by the Associated Press about the issue this week.

Not at all surprisingly, Walker flip-flopped on the Arizona anti-illegal immigration/racial profiling law just hours after he first said he supported it, writing in a note on Facebook:

After speaking this morning with the sponsor of the new law in Arizona, State Senator Russell Pearce, I’m satisfied that the amended bill provides adequate protections against racial profiling and discrimination.

In his note on Facebook, Walker also indicated that as governor, he would follow Arizona’s lead in signing legislation targeting the ability of illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses, among other things. No doubt Scott Walker’s latest flip-flop on Arizona’s illegal immigration law is due in large part to his unwillingness to get on the bad side of the Tea Party folks who seem to be the most fired up this election cycle. Given how Walker’s campaign has really failed to gain any kind of traction and pull away from Mark Neumann, it’s not at all surprising Walker would flip-flop in order to pander to a group that may ultimately decide who the next Republican gubernatorial nominee is.

  1. Im not so sure its the tea party he is pandering too, as they really dont have THAT much influence. Its probably the 65+% people in Arizona that support the law.

  2. The story you posted was dated on Friday, his facebook post was on Saturday. Your chronology is backwards which makes it appear like flip-flopping.

Furthermore, I wouldn’t say “serious concerns” is being completely against an issue. He talked to some people, got clarification, and is now “satisfied that the amended bill provides adequate protections against racial profiling and discrimination.” That is completely reasonable.

  3. Perfectly logical. At first, he evidently was enfluenced by the huge complaints and insurrection of the radical media and the radical hispanic demonstrations.
I know I quickly informed him that the law was no problem. He obviously, as he said, then talked to people in Arizona who wrote the law and became satisfied that it was no problem.
Which is perfectly correct. The law is no different than federal law and hasn’t changed since 1940.
Federal law requires aliens to carry identification at all times. How often does anyone these days, leave home without a drivers license, ID for banking pruo[oses, credit cards for purchases, Sam’s Club card to get in a Same’s club, etc., etc.
What’s the frist thing an officer does if your stopped for a traffic violation—–“drivers license please and registration”….
It’s always been police procedure to require that their must be some reason to stop someone….reasonable cause!!!!
    Nothing changed!
No bog deal! Get a life you liberals!

  4. This is a classic case of an empty head like Walker following what his puppetmasters at WMC and WTMJ tell him to do (i.e. favor illegal immigration because it means cheap labor). Then he gets the feedback from the base (and I do mean base), and he has to hastily double-back with another ridiculous take.

And you can just smell the fear coming from the suburb boys as a result, both in this post as well as from his paid staffers, COUGH, posters on Jsonline. It kinda smells like a landfill. He’s been totally exposed as a say-anything tool, I can’t imagine how much more pathetic he’ll look in 3 1/2 months, and he’s swirling the drain in the real Wisconsin.
