Helen Thomas may be considered by many to be the grande dame of the Washington press corps, but while attending the White House Jewish Heritage Celebration on May 27, Thomas suggested Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go back home to Poland, Germany, America and everywhere else.” Shortly after her remarks went public, Thomas issued an apology through her web site, and while some have called for Thomas to lose her job, Hearst Newspapers hasn’t given any indication that Thomas’ job is in jeopardy.
Considering Helen Thomas’ background, she should know better than to say something so completely stupid.
I wonder if Helen thinks white people should get the hell out of the U.S. and go back home to Poland, Germany, Scandinavia, England and everywhere else. Maybe she should go back home to Armenia.

I’m just amused at the number of commentators on this little soundbite believe they can stand up for human rights by tacitly saying, “Piss on the Palestinians.”

I heard Helen Thomas speak when she was here in Madison and I have the utmost respect for her. She’s bright, insightful and has years of history interpreting and questioning the best and worst of Washington.
Her comment was clearly inappropriate and I commend her for apologizing so quickly, unlike others who have been called out for their rash comments. I would also say that her comment stemmed from the inexcusable Israeli attack on a civilian flotilla, killing and wounding many innocent people and then proceeding to cover up their war crime.

Where were these People attack when Israel attacked and slaughter the women , children and men in Gaza strip when Obama was swore into office.
And where were these person’s attack of Israel when Israel attacked in international waters and executed an American citizen and 8 other person UNARMED..
Her remarks were as disgusting as the racist remarks people constantly make about the Palestinians.
Speaking up against such a horrible comment like the one she made isn’t the same as supporting Israeli settlements or Israeli brutality, etc.
On the same token speaking out against terrorist organizations like Hamas isn’t the same as isn’t the same as supporting everything Israel does.
The fact of the matter is neither “side” (I know it’s far more complicated than two sides) is blameless, and caught in the middle are millions of innocent people.
I see a ton of comments on news stories from people who either completely condemn Israel or who act like Israel is blameless. I don’t understand why more people don’t see this tragic situation for the complex quagmire that it is, with neither side blameless.
