Ron Johnson dislikes “career politicans,” except when they’re helping him raise money

During his time on the campaign trail here in Wisconsin, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ron Johnson has spent a lot of time lambasting “career politicians:”

“I think the problem we have in this country right now and in Washington is we have to many career and professional politicians.” – [Ron Johnson at Brookfield Chamber of Commerce Debate, 6/21/10]

“We can bring America back, but first we need to boot professional politicians out of Washington.” – [Ron Johnson “Real World” TV Ad, 6/9/10]

While Ron Johnson will tell any voter within earshot that the problem in this country is “career politicians,” he sings a very different tune to the very same “career politicians” when he needs them to help him raise money. Later today Johnson will enlist the help of incumbent Republican U.S. Senator/”career politican” Mitch McConnell in raising funds for Johnson’s U.S. Senate campaign at the headquarters of the NRSC in Washington, D.C. Curiously, while Johnson hasn’t been able to find the time to visit all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties during his campaign, he has managed to find the time to take two trips to Washington, D.C. to meet with “career politicians” and Beltway insiders, leaving me to wonder just how much Ron Johnson really cares about the grassroots voters who he’ll likely need to rally to his cause if he were to have a chance of beating Sen. Russ Feingold in the fall.
