The vacuous star for our vacuous times

I’ve long been a huge fan of professional basketball, and now that the season is over, I’ve been following with keen interest as teams have begun to tinker with (or in some cases, completely overhaul) their rosters. While I’m obviously encouraged by the moves the Milwaukee Bucks have made to improve their team, I’ve also been following what’s going on with other teams and free agents, especially LeBron James. Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA columnist for Yahoo! Sports, has a brutal take on the saga that is LeBron James’ free agency courtship:

Greatest talent to ever walk into this league, the self-proclaimed King, and now everyone gets a front-row, primetime seat for how it means to live without self-awareness, without restraint. The vacuous star for our vacuous times, live on Thursday night and fitting himself for a ring as the undisputed Championship of Me. All about ‘Bron and all about nothing.

While there’s no denying LeBron James is a singular talent on the court, I’m betting he’ll never win a championship, because he simply doesn’t have the heart. LeBron seems more concerned with building his brand than he does with winning a championship, and this year’s playoffs proved that point beyond any doubt.

  1. Nail. On. Head. (Mark the record, I agree with Zach)

Too many generals, not enough troops. I like this Adam Wojo…never mind.

More than anything, this charade has made King defined by his massive ego, not his ridiculous skills on the court. It has also flushed the remainder of whatever was left of ESPN’s credibility.
