Despite me being a negative nancy, I think if Republicans can get us out of our debt that has been there since the Tommy Thompson years? i think I’ll give them some respect where respect is due.
However, they have to put their full concentration on getting us out of debt and make us jobs. Keep in mind, this is not some easy thing to do at all – because have to be willing to pull attempts that Doyle was too pussy to do in order to get us out of this hole.
Trust me, it is possible to get out of debt within four years, as seen with Lee S. Dreyfus and Tony Earl – sure Tony Earl lost his popularity in the process but he was willing to tell you to sit down, we’re getting out of this hole, and we did get out of debt until Tommy Thompson came into power.
If Scott Walker and the Republicans who came to power do get our state successfully out of our budget deficit, I’ll be impressed. It may risk their terms in the process, but if they do, I would have a newfound respect for the Republican Party. This is not the time to be spending millions of more dollars to stop a train, no time to push through million dollars of legislation that would get us further in debt towards guns, gays, or god. You can’t be banning embryonic stem cell research, that offers jobs and possibly a way for us to get out. The train we have to keep an open mind to as well, since there are huge possibilities with it. Walker I believe will have to break promises to get us out of this mess, but if he breaks the right ones, aka the ones that will restrict jobs? I’ll be impressed.
If they do the correct, the bold move, they have to raise some taxes and fees so they will have the money to fix our budget, they need to have to cut spending a lot without destroying jobs, give tax breaks for small businesses particularly the ones trying to get off the ground, perhaps make a program that Wisconsin can permanently enable to help businesses on their first year of life, which is by far definitely the hardest time for businesses whether you will find out they will sink or swim.
Without pushing millions of more dollars to get through their agendas – even if there are some I agree with. ( Concealed carry is one personal one close to me. I’m open to civil rights both ways, you should equally have a right to a gun as long as you haven’t killed someone or had a history of violence. )
The Republican Party now has the deficit problem as their responsibility, they are in control of Wisconsin. This means, they can’t fuck it up or we won’t forget it. The fact is, each time a Republican was in power, our state deficit skyrocketed while when a democrat came into power, it began to lower. If the GOP of Wisconsin can prove me wrong, make it lower, let me be proven wrong.
A criticism I had of Doyle is while a lot of his intentions were great? It was terribly expensive and he should have focused more on fixing our budget problem, even if it was important to give gays equal rights, the train would ultimately be a good thing in the long run, and the additions to Badgercare are ultimately a good thing. I do realize he lowered it from 2.7 billion instead of over 3 billion he got in the first place, but it’s still no excuse why he didn’t go further.
If they focus on the little issues, and not the big problems – jobs and our budget? You bet your hinder everyone in Wisconsin will kick them all off. No hesitation.
“…because have to be willing to pull attempts that Doyle was too pussy to do in order to get us out of this hole.”
What exactly does that comment mean? I can’t quite put the word “pussy” into context.
Meaning he didn’t want to risk his term in the long run. I think he could have easily got us out of the budget deficit – it was showing that he was making progress in his first term by lowering it to 2.15 billion. Let that sink in for a bit.
His second term? Not so much, it went up to 2.7 billion – it’s looked like he was having second guesses all the way, like he was trying to make amends and so on. I do think he did a decent job, all considering, and while he did not make it as high as it was originally, I do think a lot of the things he pushed for were pricey and the fact is Doyle actually pushed taxes to an all time low in the state.
I can understand why he worked the way he did, after all look what happened to Tony Earl for doing that move. After restoring the state following one of the worst economic predicaments in state history? He was kicked out by Tommy Thompson. Still, I think Doyle had the very ability to tackle the problem, but simple chose not to.
Tony Earl was a nice guy.
Absolutely, I like Tony Earl too. I never met him personally, but my grandparents liked him a lot for what he did. 😀

And if Jon Kitna can carry the Cowboys to the Super Bowl I will give him credit also. The problem is they are both fundamentally unable to do so. Voter Id, repealing health insurance reform, repealing combined reporting, repealing the smoking ban, concealed carry, re-instituting the las Vegas loophole for banks, cutting badgercare etc… Are not winning ways to do it.
As I said, I am a fairly negative nancy. I don’t think they’re going to be able to do it. If they were smart, they would do that – but they care more about keeping power and ‘winning’ the state, not actually solving the problem.
( The Wisconsin GOP itself, not Republicans in the state who probably would be a lot more intelligent than the people we have in office representing them. )
Even though I am a conservative, I agree with many of the points made about the republican party. Especially as it relates to Tommy Thompson. I never understood why so many in my camp would automatically genuflect every time they heard the name of Tommy Thompson. He was not a conservative; fiscal, social or otherwise. But I digress.
This is the last chance for the republicans to actually follow their platform. If they blow it, they will be irrelevant for at least the next 20 years, if not forever.
