Dane County Executive update – right wing

Democrat turned republican Jonathan Barry was running for his old job and then was not running. So after that bit of confusion that supposedly, left a hole for a candidate from the right(not named Zach Brandon) to fill. Enter Eileen Bruskewitz, who announced her intention to run(she has about 6 days to get 500 signatures). She answered the call for a for a \"conservative\" contender for county executive from the cap times.

I dont know much about Supervisor Bruskewitz, I do know however, that she really has no sense of history or the constitution as she was recently quoted saying this:

Dane County Sup. Eileen Bruskewitz was quoted saying: “In this country, speech depends on money, so inhibiting that speech is not a good idea.”

I think that shows she is more right- wing than conservative so we will see how she fares in the February primary, but like the Cap Times I agree that all views are welcome in the primary.

  1. Yeah, she’s a long time county board conservative. She differed to Jonathon Barry, but then he dropped out. I heard she was quite unhappy that he convinced her not to run and then he dropped out.

    1. I can vouch for the lukas’ description of her as the long-time board conservative. I remember her in that role back in the ’90s and early Oughts.

That said, I take issue with your characterization of Bruskewitz’s comment as having “no sense of history or the constitution.” How so? As a candidate, I know what it takes to get my message out, especially on radio and TV. And that’s what she’ll need to do if she wants to have a chance in the primary, much less the general. In modern American politics, that’s a fair statement. How do you think her remark is not based in whatever it is you’re saying it’s not based in?

  2. This is supposedly the year of the “tea party” in the election process. The “tea party” supposedly wants to go back to what the Founders envisioned. The Founding Fathers would be abhorred that people actually buy elections and the influence that corporations have.

Add on to that her quote is basically defending citizens united, which overturned 100 years of precedence.

I understand that is the new right wing mean, but I find it to be the lazy way out. I find anyone who vehemently defends the Citizens United ruling has no sense of History of our country or the Constitution. That is where I am coming from.
