Former County Executive Tom Ament supports Jim Sullivan

I’m pretty sure this probably isn’t going to play well for Jim Sullivan:

F. Thomas Ament, the disgraced former Milwaukee County executive, toyed with the idea of running for his old job after Scott Walker stepped down to become governor.

Ament eventually dropped the idea, but now he’s doing the next best thing.

He is donating money to his preferred county exec candidate – former state Sen. Jim Sullivan.

Records show Ament gave $200 to the Wauwatosa Democrat on Jan. 18. That comes on top of $1,000 that Ament gave to Sullivanfor his failed Senate re-election bid in November.

In a statement, Sullivan spokeswoman Gillian Morris took the opportunity to take a jab at one of Sullivan’s opponents, philanthropist Chris Abele, saying, “While other candidates can independently fund their campaigns with inherited millions, Jim is proud of the strong grass-roots support he’s received from the people he will serve as the next county executive.”

Obviously Tom Ament and his wife are free to give their money to whomever they choose to support for Milwaukee County Executive, but given the lingering hostility felt towards Ament by many here in Milwaukee County, I’m not sure that his support of Jim Sullivan is necessarily a boon to Sullivan’s campaign.

  1. What…you mean Sullivan can’t turn down the money and make a statement against Ament? If he doesn’t have the backbone to stand up for what’s right maybe he’s not the right person for the job.
