The Life and Times of Scott Fitzgerald

While he has been a bit player in the Governor Walkers “I love myself” media circus, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, has had an eventful week. It ranges from anti-democratic to the childish, to the oops, that really hit close to home. We find out that Fitzgerald’s wife is a guidance counselor in the Hustisford School District and she received her preliminary layoff notice this week.

For those of you not in education, when a school district is facing cuts(when aren’t they?), they have to give any teacher that they might lay off, a preliminary lay off notice. This does NOT mean that they will for sure be laid off, but it gives the school district options. Thanks to the teacher’s unions, and collective bargaining, they can not lay off a teacher that they did not give a “preliminary lay off notice” to. Many schools will give out extra just to be sure. Hustisford it seems, with the uncertainty coming from Madison, gave a preliminary layoff notice to all 34 members of its teacher’s union.

Scott Fitzgerald, who has been in the front lines trying desperately to pass the “budget repair” bill, with the state budget to follow after, surely would have known that this was a possibility for his wife, the teacher’s union member right? So how did Senator Fitzgerald take the not so surprising news?

It’s not something I take lightly,” said Fitzgerald, whose wife, Lisa, is the district’s only guidance counselor. “It will have an effect on our life.”

Fitzgerald said his wife initially believed she was one of only three staff members to receive a preliminary layoff notice, after the board’s Wednesday action. “I thought maybe she was being targeted by them,” he said.

Even after learning that everyone had received notices and that she was not targeted, Fitzgerald said “it seems odd.”

So when they give notices to ALL teachers, and it “seems odd’ that his wife would be included? Does he truly feels the the Family is above all and the rules he makes do not apply to him? Also we have yet another Fitzgerald on the public dime, interesting.

  1. But maybe Lisa Fitzgerald will be able to collect unemployment compensation before Scott Fitzgerald, Gov Walker and the Republicans vote to terminate that program too.

I wonder how many Republicans in the Assembly or Senate are starting to realize that Walker gets all the credit and they get all the blame.

  2. Fitzgerald was on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell last night trying to explain away Walkers ” we thought about that ” remark concerning planting provocateurs amongst the protesters in Madison. Fitzgerald tried to claim they were only concerned about the AFL-CIO planting troublemakers, which was not a good move on his part. He came off like a liar and O’Donnell fairly oozed contempt.

Coincidentally,(:-)) Walker tried the same explanation when grilled by Greta van Susteren, who looked at him like she was pretty disappointed, which was when Walker reverted to his 4th grader defense of ” there were other people who wanted to plant troublemakers too!!!!”

I’d say Chief Wray has a pair of people that owe him an explanation.
