Why won’t Jeff Stone tell the truth about unions?

Here’s Republican State Rep. Jeff Stone, Gov. Scott Walker’s hand-picked choice to succeed Walker as Milwaukee County Executive, explaining how he doesn’t agree with Gov. Walker’s proposal to eliminate virtually all collective bargaining for public employees (emphasis mine):

“I understand it’s a major issue to the unions,” Stone said. “It’s not necessarily the way I would have drafted this budget-repair bill. I would have approached it in different ways.

While Jeff Stone says he doesn’t agree with Gov. Walker’s proposal to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for public employees, it’s worth noting Stone voted against dozens of Democratic amendments during the marathon three-day debate on the bill last week, including amendments that would have preserved the current collective bargaining system.

Attempts to reach Jeff Stone or his campaign for clarification as to whether or not he really supports collective bargaining for public employees were unsuccessful.

  1. It is unfortunate that the only alternative, Abele, supports privatization of all government services.

    1. When/where did Abele say that?

I’ve spoken with him in person, and he made it pretty clear he doesn’t support privatization of all government services.

        1. Cite me specific (and multiple) examples of Abele saying he’d privatize all government services if elected County Executive. Just because you say it doesn’t make it so, so show me the proof.

          1. Greater Wisconsin report that he helped draft and argosy paid for, multiple JS articles during the primary, all the forums, his TV commercials, at least a couple pieces of mail he mailed my house.

Abele has been very clear that he will privatize some government services, just because you do not want to believe it does not make it go away. We, as Milwaukee County residents, are screwed. Neither candidate is going to protect Milwaukee County, they both want to burn it down.

            1. I’ve gotten all the same mailings as you, and I don’t recall them saying Chris Abele would privatize all government services.

What’s more, it’s interesting that you’ve gone from saying Abele would privatize all government services to now saying he’d privatize some government services.

  2. “He voted YES for the Budget Repair bill.

    Kind of says it all.”

Exactly, if this guy had game or independence, he would have tried to put in changes to this absurd bill. Instead he followed his orders from WMC, Walker, Sykes, and Belling. That ain’t leadership material, and hopefully guarantees a big loss in 31 days.

    1. The fact that Stone couldn’t get above 40% in a primary in which the Democratic vote was split by four candidates doesn’t bode well for Stone.

  3. since I can’t figure out who the honest person is of the two candidates for county exec, would I/we be better off not casting any vote at all?????

    1. No, you wouldn’t be better off not casting a vote, unless you want Jeff Stone to get elected.

Granted, Chris Abele isn’t perfect (then again, who is?) but he strikes me as someone who’d work hard to move Milwaukee County forward if elected, while Jeff Stone will have the county continuing to move backwards, as it did under Scott Walker.
