You can still support the efforts to recall the “Republican 8”!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve no doubt heard of the “Wisconsin 14” – the 14 Democratic State Senators who’ve left Wisconsin in order to stand in support of Wisconsin’s public employees and their collective bargaining rights. However, while you may be familiar with the “Wisconsin 14,” you should also familiarize yourself with the “Republican 8.” The “Republican 8” are the 8 Republican State Senators who’ve not only publicly supported Gov. Walker’s plan to bust Wisconsin’s public employee unions by removing their collective bargaining rights and making it more difficult to organize those unions, but are also eligible to be recalled from office immediately:

In 60 days you can take Wisconsin back.

It’s that simple.

This morning citizens from around the state took the first steps by filing recall papers against key Republican Senators who have stood with Scott Walker and pushed his partisan power grab that will strip thousands of middle class teachers, nurses, librarians and other workers of their right to collective bargaining. And we learned just last night that their disastrous budget that will cut millions from our schools and universities.

While the folks who support Wisconsin’s public employees have made it clear that they’re very passionate, recalling the “Republican 8” will be a daunting task, as tens of thousands of signatures will need to be collected in each of their senate districts in only 60 days.

  1. Zach, does this mean you support the idea of recalling any elected official at any time (pending elgibility) simply for voting in a way you disagree with?

    1. Why not? CRG has threatened recalls of liberal elected officials simply because of their voting records (Milw. County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic as an example), so since it’s good enough for conservatives to threaten recalls of liberal elected officials because of their votes, then why not turn the tables and threaten to recall some conservative elected officials for the same reasons?

If enough citizens in these Republican districts are upset with how their Republican Senators have voted (or have promised to vote), then the citizens should be allowed to recall those Senators.

      1. So somebody does something you disagree with, so that makes it fair to do it back? Somehow I thought you were better than that.

And yes I know it is allowable by law, but I was asking your opinion as to when it is appropriate or not.

Personally I think it should only be used in extreme situations like breaking the law, violating oath, or not doing their jobs (you know, like the Dem 14).

Just for the record, I have stayed consistent in my position, no matter who was advocating it. Outside of the Milw County ones I can only remember one against Feingold, which I did not support. Maybe there was one early on in the term of Doyle too?

So, I would support a recall for any of the Democrat Senators who refuse to show up to do their jobs regardless of the issue, but I would not support a recall of those same Senators if they had stayed and voted “no” on this particular issue, just because it is a vote I disagree with.

  2. It’s absurd/stupid to even pose the question unless of course you might be just deliberately trying to annoy while also patting yourself on the back about how clever you are. And yet not…
By your “reasoning” (for lack of a better term) then sour-minded individual Democrats would single-handedly go around attempting recall every time a Republican wins. No one would listen it would be pointless and never get off the ground.

However, when thousands upon thousands of people leave work family and home day in and day out, in a completely unprecedented manner to protest a BRAND NEW elected official, one who railroads radical new social engineering programs that have NOT been discussed let alone agreed upon – when those persons persist, and even gain in numbers… well then it’s kinda logical to put the whole situation to a quantifiable test via an official democratic process i.e. recall.
This is an historically unusual situation, the sort of situation that recall laws would have been written for. The “founding father’s Teabaggers claim to love so much (but never actually study) would have thought of this kind of thing, made contingencies for it.

Maybe next time your party will think for a moment before deciding to re-structure all of America with one Bill.
And as a final thought, you would be more appropriate to pose your question to the Republican-friendly Utah group that stands at the ready, like a creepy legal militia, going into action not as a result of real world events but simply to Be There to target whatever their sour grapes leader decides should be the “libs” in the cross-hairs this week. Your recall group is like the McDonald’s of Recall, packaged deals ready to go. Whether the target is in Utah or not, off they go, because that’s all they do, is recall Libs. Ask THEM your question, since they are mercenary Recallers-For-Hire. They would answer “yes”

No wonder you’re suspicious, you’ve been hanging around your own kind too long, you assume everyone is like you.

    1. Annie, it’s not absurd at all to ask Zach this question. I ask because I know he was critical of the CRG recalls in the past, but now he is busy raising $$$ for a recall of his own.

I don’t know where you got that my reasoning would state Democrats would recall every Republican. I am speaking on principle, not party. I thought I was pretty clear on that. By your definition though, it would have been appropriate to recall any of the BRAD NEW politicans that voted for Obamacare last year? Or the ones that voted for tax increases under Doyle last year? There is nothing “historically unusual” in this situation, other than you don’t like it.

For the record I don’t support a Utah group organzing a recall of Wisconsin politicians, of any party. I hope the AFL-CIO or Obama’s Organizing for America group won’t be participating either.

And what do you think I am suspicious of? I do not assume every one is like me. I do read this blog after all.

    2. “Maybe next time your party will think for a moment before deciding to re-structure all of America with one Bill.”

Wow, I wasn’t aware that the Governor and legislature in Wisconsin could restructure all of AMERICA in any way!
