I want to make something clear

I’ve long been a believer that a person should be able to argue/debate/dialogue without resorting to name calling and insults in order to prove their point.

With that in mind, I’d invite all of you (liberal and conservative) to try to aim a little higher when it comes to the rhetoric you choose to use. The last thing I want is for Blogging Blue to degenerate into a blog full of insult-hurling commenters, so if you can’t comment without insults, you should probably find somewhere else to go.

  1. I won’t lie, a reason why I haven’t been commenting as much is due to this rhetoric. I still read, but no more commenting for me.

    1. T, I’d encourage you to engage more, not less. Your comments are always measured, insightful, and appreciated. That’s how the environment gets upgraded: with your help!

      1. I personally would like to, but even if I do make a fair amount of money at my job I still do have to care for my family. Add in that food is getting expensive, paying the bills and so on I’m kind of always constantly working. Designing a stressful job for your brain because you have to be quick, change to whatever the customer demands and they’re very fickle.

Plus all these businesses in Green Bay that are either closing up or going down in flames (quite literally) are making me nervous. I’ll be here to comment more, it just won’t be at the same frequency.

I don’t have the privilege to simply wax and wane the glory of the Republicans, how they’re helping everyone since I’m afraid portions of my family are being hit – Lawyers, police officers, firefighters – the whole deal. I’m loaning them some extra money while they’re on their unemployment, so they could have enough to feed their family with the grocery prices rising. Basically, they’re successfully destroying the lives of my family who have done nothing but struggle to get by and trust me – being a minority in the United States isn’t easy even if my grandmother is brainwashed to believe so. If you need a picture – she is the one who believed 8 dollars an hour was a good job and told me for years that “don’t ever expect it to get better for you and don’t be sad you don’t get the jobs, you might be capable but they’ll always choose someone white before you.” And emphasized there was nothing wrong with that because that was just the way it was. If you need an idea, I literally survived growing up on 8 dollars because my grandpa wasn’t able to work anymore after a bunch of surgeries due to injuries and so on.

I don’t feel much sympathy for rich people because of this, because my family and I often literally drove around rich neighborhoods to get what we wanted. A new TV that is only a year old? Put it in the truck. Hey, some good chairs that are being tossed out – take them too.

I feel no sympathy for these people who can be so flippant with their money and cry the next moment they don’t have enough to survive. Maybe you would survive if you didn’t spend it on stupid shit: I learned something growing up – what do I want and what do I need. What I want, is a ton of video games to play on a big screen TV. What I need is food, medical bills, insurance, and the bills paid. Seems like many rich people or conservatives for that matter can’t seem to tell the difference between a want and a need.

  2. I’ve been tossing my thoughts around under my real name since 1990 on Usenet, under the assumption that self identifying gave my words more meaning, and held me, myself, to a higher standard. Only recently have I considered scrapping the whole thing. In the past month I’ve enjoyed the experience of having people post inanities using my name, spam my business listings, dig into my past, and crank call friends and family. And I’m only a commenter for cryin’ out loud. I can’t imagine what it must be like for you.

Do WE do that? If we do, we should stop.
