Jobs….what’s the point of jobs if no one will be able to afford the education needed to earn and hold a decent job??

this has been shared here before but carlin nails the answer to this question.
One has to believe that Carlin has read the “Underground History of Education” by Gatto. How in the hell can you expect to be educated ( to think independently and logically) in a government indoctrination center that as Carlin says is out to keep you stupid. I’m thinking Carlin was smart enough not to vote for these charlatans every two years. Clearly, this not a partisan issue since both parties, as Carlin says, are the Man who want to keep you stupid.
Be sure to vote early and often to continue this scam.
Your point is off because of your incorrect definition of education.
To be educated is to be given access to the vast existing knowledge bank accumulated over millennia of human endeavor. It’s to be “indoctrinated”, if you will, in “the way things work” that we know about.
To think independently and logically, while ostensibly something that can be taught in the abstract, is really more a function of intelligence. Sure, when combined with an education, this can help to advance and add to that vast knowledge bank, but that’s beside the point here.
We can’t ask everybody to be intelligent – that’s just a fact of human nature – but we can provide everyone an education, and an education is the key to a quality workforce and a rising middle class.
Define decent job.
Family sustaining.
How hard can that be. Millions of Mexicans, Koreans, Russians come here to work, support their families here and in their homelands with jobs they get here.
Just one requirement, they have to actually work and be productive.
It seems to me, from what I’ve seen, Americans want jobs but don’t wanna have to work. They mostly want jobs as sinecures.
How often must I mention that there have been repeated articles from corporate CEOs complaining about the lack of skilled employees? Just this morning an article in MJS stated that there are 600,000 manufacturing jobs unfilled…we are doing a shitty job of educating our population…they have the wrong skills. And the CEOs are partly to blame for being so damn hands off and not making it known to students, schools and the govt what skills they need or anticipate needing.
Not being able to afford an education necessary to get a good job has always been a problem, even a tragedy, for the individual. Now, a more troubling societal problem has emerged world wide. Many young people have educations, but there are not enough good jobs available.
I am very concerned about the fact that this will carry over into a lifetime of lower earnings for this generation and their children. We all should be concerned about the social unrest that could result.
Maybe the Mayans had it right (2012), and we are at a point of major societal change. We certainly don’t need Scott Walker and his ilk. They are not concerned about “well paying ” jobs that could help maintain and even grow the middle class.
Well said, Linda (though blaming Mayan mysticism lets the criminals off the hook 🙂 ).
Indeed – quite the opposite, if their “what’s good for business” m.o. is to be believed. Better jobs with better wages = bad for business. See Orlin’s above imploring of us dirty, dirty commoners to pull our bootstraps up and aspire to sweatshop wages and conditions to achieve our dreams.
Again, Carlin nailed it, but evidently you missed it.
