The Governor of Virginia and the head of the Virginia GOP seem to get it, that there are some images that are completely out of bounds. An image of Obama as a Zombie with a bullet hole in his forehead is definitely out of bounds. No questions there. But some Republicans simply don’t get it. From Politico (And ABCNews):
The Loudoun County Republican Committee responded by sending out a statement Monday evening that both tried to explain and apologize.
“The Loudoun County Republican Committee yesterday sent an email to its members that represented a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday,” Sell wrote in a statement obtained by multiple outlets.
“Apparently, some individuals have interpreted an image of Barack Obama that appeared within the email as intending to portray the president as a victim of a violent crime. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression that was left. The LCRC deplores any effort to display, suggest or promote violence against the president or any other political figure.”
What a bunch of crap, and the insincerest apology possible. Are these guys such fruitcakes that they didn’t know the image of the President of the United States with a bullet hole in his forehead would offend? That’s the takewaway here, that there are still a whole bunch of fruitcakes out there on the GOP side of the aisle, and that we must be vigilant in confronting them every single time they cross the line of human decency.
On a slightly positive note, I suspect this is not racism. Terrorism is more like it, and that is far worse.
