An honest challenge to Cindy K

Over the last few years, I have pretty much given up on following the conservative bloggers in the state, because 1) they don’t care for me and 2) I don’t care for them so 3) screw that.

But I still follow some of the more reasonable ones on twitter, since it’s not a bad idea to know what the other side is saying.

So I’ve been watching as Cindy Kilkenny rides her new hobby horse:

I was reading an article on the line up of potential Dem candidates and that there will most likely be a primary for that side of the ballot.

What if I ran?

I mean, one doesn’t have to declare a party loyalty to register to vote here, nor is one required to be a dues-paying member of any party organization.

Sure, it could just be a joke, but in comments to that post she starts laying out a platform that differs from Scott Walker’s.  Not by a lot, you know, but she talks specifically about Act 10, and how she would have pushed changes that “feel less like union busting” and kept local control.

So here’s my challenge to Cindy–and I’m serious here though I have tussled with her in the past:  Run as a Republican.  Seriously, Cindy, you and Tim Cullen would be pretty hard to tell apart in the Democratic primary.  So instead of mounting a challenge to Democrats from the right (or center, if you prefer), challenge Walker from the left (or, you know, center).

If you’re serious about “governing more from the middle” and think that Wisconsinites of all stripes would prefer that to either Walker’s hard right turn or the several flavors of center-left offered by the likely Dem candidates, then run.  But run as who you are, a moderate Republican, and not as some half-winking spoiler.

Let’s be honest, Cindy, you were one of Walker’s most vocal Republican critics during primary 2010.  I doubt there’s much good will left to worry about saving by running on the Democratic ballot.

So do it.  Set up your committee to run as a Republican in the gubernatorial recall, and I’ll be your first $50 donor.

  1. You guys. Gee. (Blushing here.)

No way I’d win a Republican primary. Why would I choose that option? I’ve always said I was reared as a Democrat. It wouldn’t be such a stray from my roots.

I am flattered. And honestly? It’s on the list of family weekend discussion topics, but under the original plan.

    1. You wouldn’t win a Dem primary, either, and you know it. That’s no excuse.

However, your voice is far less likely to be ignored if you are Scott Walker’s only Republican primary opponent, than if you are the fake-Dem in a crowded Dem primary.

    2. You may have been rearded as a Democrat, but it’s pretty clear you’ve come a long way since then.

I’m sure there are moderate Republicans left here in Wisconsin, but you’re not one of them, no matter if you weren’t a fan of Scott Walker or not.

  2. Folkbum – maybe not, but it’s going to be a crowded field and I have worked long and hard to develop a number of press contacts that would likely allow my voice to be heard. Plus, and really this isn’t something to be ignored, I have the resources to ride out the storm.

Honestly? That you guys even noticed gives me cause to think it’s an idea worth considering. Most of the voters in the upcoming recall have never read a blog. What if my point of view prevailed once presented to the rest of Wisconsin?

Still premature, mind you. I have to float the idea with the local crowd first.

  3. Can you even run in a “primary” against the incumbent in the recalls??? If so, it begs the question — Why didn’t anyone try this last time around in any of the Senate races??

    1. Yes, you can. I think the reason no one does it is loyalty.

By which I mean, usually you don’t have so many of the incumbent party–Cindy K. included, in this instance–who are so seriously disappointed in their guy to consider really running.

  4. Ok lets get real Cindy.

    1. Thousands of people took time out of their busy schedules, away from their families and really put themselves in harms way to get recall petitions signed. They were there in good and bad weather, all hours of the day 7 days a week. Do you really think they would do all of that to allow some right wing blogger(and lets be real your pretty far to the right) to win the democratic nomination? Irregardless if you “know” a couple reporters do you think they would treat you as an equal and give you “equal” time? Outsiders do not fair very well with the mainstream media…..and yes you are an outsider and the media spotlight will be very bright on this race.

    2. I would bet everything I own that you do NOT have the resources to pull this off. The thing is, if you did you could probably cancel out my point #1 (ask Sensenbrenner, Abele, Kohl, etc…) and you find out if your willing to spend unlimited amounts ofmoney than you can buy a seat but its in the multi millions to won this race. Do you really have friends/family/husband willing to give you millions to help advertise the blog? I recommend just paying a few hundred bucks for an ad if you want more traffic.

    1. Why Mr. Simpson, you sound threatened. Plus, the resources required would be to get through the Dem primary, not the race. Look at the current slate and reply. Plus, I might have a secret weapon…

(You totally rock the word “irregardless” by the way.)

      1. And it’s you, Cindy, it’s you! You’re all we’re thinking of. You are our last and best hope. Run, Cindy, run! Think of all the new attention you’ll have! It’ll be like Mother’s Day and your birthday and Christmas all rolled into one!
