God…this makes me so sad. What the hell happened? Who is responsible?
We all are because we accept that free market capitalism is the only alternative… The fragility of the myth, the brittleness of the world view means that it is possible to tear a hole in it without much effort.
The very oppressive pervasiveness of capitalist realism means that even glimmers of alternative political and economic possibilities can have a disproportionately great effect. The tiniest event can tear a hole in the grey curtain of reaction which has marked the horizons of possibility under capitalist realism. From a situation in which nothing can happen, suddenly anything is possible again.
The tragedy is that most Americans have lost their ability to think outside the “free market capitalism” frame.
Actually the misallocation of resources is a sign of too much government intervention, not too much freedom.
There are two sides to this compelling story. In Memphis I saw homeless people moved by the thousands into public housing. Within 5 years, millions of dollars worth of public housing had been virtually destroyed. Within 20 years it was all condemned and torn down. It takes management of long term assets which our system of government has a difficult time with under the term limit mentality.
The only thing more foolish than Ron Paul are people who think Ron Paul isn’t a fool. Oy…
People who still believe in free-market capitalism remind me of that line from Richard Pryor: “Who you gonna believe? Me, or your lyin’ eyes?”
Despite all the economic research pointing to the collapse of our economy because of unrestrained capitalism over the last forty years, people will still scream that government is the problem.
Meh, this picture is not created by free market capitalism, but government interventions in the housing market.
Blame state interventions in housing market.
Many solutions for affordable housing for the poor are illegal, thanks to the state.

I think a lot of us get confused about the difference between capitalism and corporatism (which is what we actually have). There’s a good video out that explains them at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH4T02U5TTY&feature=g-hist&context=G2bf5e2dAHT4WM4QACAA
