Shameful GOP legislators vote to deny health insurance coverage for tens of thousands of Wisconsinites

Earlier tonight, the Republican legislators on the Joint Finance Committee, being the outstanding examples of Christian values that they are, voted in lockstep to reject $120 million in federal funding to expand the Wisconsin’s Medicaid programs. In rejecting the $120 million in federal funding, a decision that will likely result in nearly 90,000 Wisconsinites being kicked off BadgerCare and forced into a new online insurance marketplace. The nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau found that many of the people now receiving BadgerCare Plus coverage who would be kicked off thanks to Republicans likely would not buy the more expensive insurance through the federal program, resulting in a loss of coverage.

In casting their votes tonight, those Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee have made it abundantly clear that they’re less concerned about making responsible budget decision that will positively impact the lives of tens of thousands and are instead more concerned about their heartless, unchristian ideology.

There is absolutely nothing socially just or right about the decisions Republicans in the legislature have made over the past few days/weeks/months, and they should be (but clearly won’t be) ashamed of themselves.

  1. It wasn’t $120 million on federal money turned down, it was $489 million in federal money turned down.

The $120 million is the EXTRA STATE DOLLARS we have to pay for this idiotic pose. It’s a reckless action that should leave all 12 GOPs who decided on this unfit for office.

    1. You fail to mention that the one time federal money isn’t a long term sustainable plan. What do you think would happen when the federal money doesn’t come again? Just like with the proposed train, you are eager to accept “free” money without recognizing who is on the hook for forever after that. Oh and in case anyone forgot, federal money comes from taxpayers too. I know they like to keep printing more, but it doesn’t fall from the heavens.

  2. Zach W. thanks for keeping us informed. Question: I ask this a lot no one has answers. Who will pay for the baby boom, when they ake away birth control??? Will the babies and childern be neglected??? 3 or 4 more B. C. clinics skeduled to be closed in wisconsin. The rich make more $ on selling pampers, gerbers, johnsons, carters, ect… The tax payers get stuck with the bill for education, health care, dental care, and more.

    1. Cheryl, show me who has proposed taking away birth control. Abortion isn’t birth control.

You seriously believe in a conspiracy by “the rich” to “take away” your birth control so they can sell more diapers and baby food? When did it get so loony on this blog?

Your final comment is just shameful. Parents should be “stuck” with most of those bills anyway, not taxpayers.
