Governor Walker and Others Blatantly Obstruct Affordable Care Act

I’ve previously mentioned the New York Times article on the attempts to influence the public’s acceptance of the Affordable Care Act. One of the items they mention is state and local officials doing what they can to obstruct implementation of the law:

Republican state and local officials are trying to thwart the administration’s enrollment efforts by imposing restrictions and requirements on volunteers seeking to inform people about how to enroll in coverage plans under the law.

And guess who is prime suspect number one in restricting volunteers who want to help enroll the uninsured in Obamacare? Well, none other than our own Governor Scott Walker!

Health care advocates say the charges imposed by Gov. Scott Walker’s administration on volunteers who want to help sign people up for health insurance are deterring them from getting involved.

Fees include $39 for a background check, $75 to take a required exam and $150 for online training.

Insurance commission spokesman J.P. Wieske says more than 500 people have gone through free training the department is offering. He defends the fees as a reasonable cost of implementing the law.

But other states with governors who support the Affordable Care Act are not requiring volunteers to pay the fees and supporters of the law in Wisconsin say the charges are road blocks to smoothly implementing the law.

Another day, another roadblock from our small government Republicans.
