Campaigns 101: don’t forget the disclaimer!

This is a small thing, but Aaron Camp of The Prairie Badger first reported Republican State Assembly candidate Justin Moralez didn’t have the standard “Authorized/paid for by……” disclaimer on an “ad” he posted to his campaign’s YouTube channel.

Republican state assembly candidate Justin Moralez, who is running against progressive patriot Christine Sinicki in the 20th Assembly District of Wisconsin, forgot to include a very important thing on his latest YouTube web ad: a “paid for by (name of campaign committee), (name of campaign treasurer), treasurer” legal disclaimer, which is legally required by Wisconsin state campaign laws.

As I noted, the failure to include a disclaimer on a campaign communication is a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but it’s funny to me because it’s still a very bush-league mistake. Putting the “Authorized/paid for by…..” disclaimer on all campaign communications is Campaigns 101 – it’s just something that anyone who’s at least a little knowledgeable about campaigns should know.
