What rapper Killer Mike’s endorsement of Bernie Sanders could mean

Three weeks ago, rapper Killer Mike sent out a tweet announcing his endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and H.A. Goodman wrote on Friday that Killer Mike’s endorsement of Bernie Sanders could spell trouble for Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

Furthermore, some things can’t be forecasted by number crunchers, political strategists, and pundits eager to jump on the bandwagon of political power. When grass roots organizations supporting Bernie Sanders in 2016 have names like Limbaugh’s Hometown (“if we can organize in hometown of Rush Limbaugh nothing can stop us”), support for the Vermont Senator is coming from politically astute voters cognizant of the partisan divides in American politics. It says something about the upcoming election that Bernie Sanders has raised $15 million in just two months, without the help of billionaires or a super PAC, and primarily from people who contributed $250 or less.

As a result of a groundswell of enthusiasm that money can’t buy, Sanders has surged in both Iowa and New Hampshire, cut into Clinton’s lead (something unimaginable even several months ago), and can realistically win both the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire Primary, as well as the presidency. Killer Mike’s endorsement of Sanders might not be part of any aggregate data and number crunching used to forecast election results, but it represents something far more relevant. Many voters are tired of Republicans and Democrats who vote for the same wars, support the same drones that often times kill innocent people, and look the other way when it comes to income inequality. These people will be searching for alternatives to political dynasties and vapid, carefully crafted promises in 2016. They might eventually be searching for the same candidate endorsed by Killer Mike and Americans filling arenas and venues throughout the nation: Senator Bernie Sanders.

While Bernie Sanders obviously still has an uphill battle (and that’s putting it mildly) if he’s going to win the Democratic presidential nomination, it’s encouraging to see so many people waking up and realizing that the status quo as represented by Hillary Clinton simply isn’t working for a broad swath of Americans.

  1. I fully agree that the corporate party i.e. the Democratic Party needs reform and that refreshing everyones mind about Hillary is crucial to any social democracy issues being forwarded, but Bernie IS NOT going to be the person to do it.

No denying the history alluded to in the attached articles. Wish it were otherwise, but there we have it in two concise explanations.

    1. Some more invaluable history of relationships with the Deomcrats and the Clintons and with “independence,” about Bernie. Again I love what he is saying currently but I don’t expect any follow-up with action should he win the primary, but I am open to changing my mind if circumstances change and the history of this politician becomes just that, history.

This is must read voter information.

  2. “.. the status quo represented by Hillary Clinton….”

I believe this statement is inaccurate at this early stage before the primaries and any debates. Let’s allow her the courtesy of revealing all her priorities, programs, and goals before we pass a judgement or declare lhem DOA before we know what they are.

I want to hear ALL candidates before I declare runner-ups.

    1. Morning Duane,

I make some of my political decisions/conclusions about candidates based on what an “opposing,” POV repeats over and over again in criticizing them. In Hillary’s case it was (recently, for awhile) Benghazi, Benghazi…never one thing about her personal or professional or family connections to the revolving door political/financial interactions with (generically) “Wall Street.” Just saying. 😉

Saddly the state of election politics on the Democratic side primarily the national level. My reasons why DPW needs to break from them totally and completely.

Words toward a direction, Elizabeth Warren July 17, 2015.

  3. Bernie Sanders is addressing and building political capitol a lot of economic and social issues that up until now has not been on the Democratic establishment radar. I expect many of the issues such has paid vacation, free public college and incarceration reform will become cornerstone issues just as health care has.

In order for Bernie Sanders to win the election, people that have not traditionally been involved in the primary/caucus process are going to have to be involved.

If Hillary Clinton and her supporters make gun control a central issue to the primary, it won’t be Bernie Sanders damaging Hillary Clinton for the general election, it will be her own campaigns doing.
