Donald Trump would threaten the Pope if he criticized capitalism

This is Donald Trump at his “best…”

Donald Trump said Wednesday that he would use the threat of ISIS terrorists to scare the pope if he confronted him about the dangers of capitalism.

When Pope Francis visits the United States next month he is expected to be critical of American economic policies, as he has in the past.

Trump told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that he would remind the pope that ISIS wants to kill him and take over Vatican City.

“I’d say, ‘ISIS wants to get you,’” Trump said. “You know that ISIS wants to go in and take over the Vatican — you have heard that. That’s a dream of theirs.”

When asked whether he really wanted to scare the pope, Trump said he is going to have to take that route.

“I’m going to have to scare the pope,” Trump said. “The pope, I hope, can only be scared by God, but the truth is — you know, if you look at what’s going on — they better hope that capitalism works, because it’s the only thing we have right now. And it’s a great thing when it works properly.”

This is your Republican presidential frontrunner, conservatives.

  1. Pope Francis is not criticizing capitalism which is a joint effort between labor and capital, but “unfettered capitalism” defined as immoral or unfair excesses such as “trickle down economics,” and other extremes such as greed by some of “capital” resulting in a huge and unfair disparity of income compared to “labor.”

Also, for a greater depth of understanding, see Pope Francis’ exhortation, “The Joy of the Gospel.” pertaining to economics in today’s world.

Incidentally, Pope Francis has been consistent in his criticisms of abuse and excess in other countries, but also at “home” removing some of the “fat cats” within the Vatican itself.

  2. Duane, you’re asking for a lot if you want Donald Trump to exert himself toward greater understanding. Surely he “knows” everything he needs to know. The thought of Trump trying to school this pope on anything is ludicrous.

    1. Joanne, my statement “trickle down economics” in my opening sentence should read “trickle up economics” which is what Pope Francis decries as greed by capital.

I agree Trump has a mindset that defies correction or consideration of other opinions.

  3. Don’t really care what Trump thinks of the pope, but from his comment it would be interesting to hear what he thinks the definition of capitalism working properly is. I imagine it has something to do with no social safety nets, no public assistance and definitely no social security program. Oh wait, that’s Scott Walker’s plan.
