The Irony In The Feds Worrying About Clinton’s Email Security

I am not going to go into Hillary Clinton’s ‘rogue’ email server issues at this point. I just find the recent concern over the security of her server and emails to be incredibly hypocritical given this:

IRS says thieves used agency website to steal tax info from additional 220,000 taxpayers:

A computer breach at the IRS in which thieves stole tax information from thousands of taxpayers is much bigger than the agency originally disclosed.

An additional 220,000 potential victims had information stolen from an IRS website as part of a sophisticated scheme to use stolen identities to claim fraudulent tax refunds, the IRS said Monday. The revelation more than doubles the total number of potential victims, to 334,000.

Some of our most valuable personal assets were stolen from supposedly one of our most secure federal agencies. And we are worried about some emails? The priorities in Washington remained entirely skewed.

  1. We need to care about those emails. Would we care less if this was Dick Cheney who was front and center about such emails. We should be mindful that she was not the one who should have been self-censoring her emails anymore than any other person in her place should do. I might also add as a lover of history that no researcher will ever have the opportunity to gauge and reflect on actions that were talked about in emails that were deleted as they were ‘personal’. I have no beef with Hillary but would not want anyone in a position like that to act as she has. The tin ear this has to it should concern all of us who desire to win the WH in 2016.

  2. If I have a choice between someone having a few emails from the State Dept rather than someone having my name, address, birthdate and social security number, I’ll hand over the SD emails any day.

  3. Gregory,

Thanks for supporting Chisholm, Schmitz, and the John Doe investigation of Gov. Walker’s secret emails as County Exec.

“We own C.F.G.,” said R.J. Johnson, a Walker campaign official and paid staffer at the Club for Growth who was at the center of the case. In emails obtained as evidence, a Walker fundraiser wrote that “As the Governor discussed … he wants all the issue advocacy efforts run thru one group to ensure correct messaging,” adding that “Wisconsin Club for Growth can accept corporate and personal donations without limitations and no donors disclosure.” I

Collectively, those four justices have thus far received just under $6 million from Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, and about $2 million from Wisconsin Club for Growth – the two groups being investigated for wrongdoing and who, along with the Walker campaign, launched the case against their prosecution.”

    1. Ed, have you considered the possibility that a person could be concerned about two (or more) troublesome issues at the same time without being “incredibly hypocritical?” Or would you have been an incredible hypocrite to care about global warming while Planned Parenthood funding was in question?

      1. Denis, have you considered that Ed and I are not the same person?

If not a “hypocrite,” what would you call someone who claims to think “abortion” is murder, but then does nothing to “save any babies.” Who is stopping you from contracting with the Ob/Gyn and the mother to adopt the “baby?” Have you even tried to raise money for the neo-natal unit and find caring parents?

If you really think it’s murder, why aren’t you demanding a homicide investigation after every miscarriage? Isn’t that “hypocrite” with a capital “h?”

After Pope Francis’ “Laudato Si,” http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html

you’re still denying the lethal human impact on the climate?

Denis, national security starts with local security. The foundation of all local security rests on the tripod of access to potable (fresh) water, safe food, and sustainable energy.

National security starts with local security. The foundation of all local security rests on the tripod of access to potable (fresh) water, safe food, and sustainable energy. Until Wisconsin invests in solar and wind, biomass is the only locally sourced energy fuel. AFAIK, it doesn’t leave the mercury, heavy metals that coal does. If the accounting doesn’t take those significant advantages into account, it’s flawed.

      2. Did you miss the memo that I am a liberal blogger and not a journalist? That I am free to indulge in hyperbole to make a point?

As I originally stated: I am not weighing in on Clinton’s email server…but I would suggest someone else is trying to make points to cover their security issues by complaining about the Clinton server’s potential vulnerability…when an off the government grid server may actually be safer that one that has a .gov domain.

  4. I would consider all your points, and even try to solve your leakage problem, except to do so would be “incredibly hypocritical” per Ed’s argument, since there has been a theft of info from the IRS, a problem that trumps all others. Of course a brilliant mind such as yours John surely recognizes that I have exposed Ed’s argument for what it is – a nakedly transparent effort to negate the importance of the Clinton e-mail scandal. And your misdirection is much the same.

    1. Denis,

Based on the option you picked before starting to write your 12:05, your reply is to Ed. Then in the second sentence you address me.

You made a similar error in your 8:05, which I pointed out to you.

My belief is that you’re compensated for your comments, which is a testimony to the lack of quality control by whomever signs your checks (Nemo?). Of course when you’re swimming in the oligarch’s money, it’s easy to give it away.

Why won’t Nemo let you post about an issue on which liberals and conservatives agree?

“(Federal) Taxes For Revenue Are Obsolete”
      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/warren-mosler/taxes-for-revenue-are-obs_b_542134.html

Note, federal taxes are not obsolete.

      1. John,

First, I am strangely honored that you would think that I am in any way connected to the Denis posts here. Honored because Denis writes well (better than me) and has deep and valid points. Strangely because I think it strange that anyone would pay another to comment on a blog post. I know I wouldn’t, would you?

Second, if we somehow fell into the Bizarro World and Denis was paid by me to comment here, I’d give him permission to post on threads where liberals and conservatives agree. But then again, it would be the Bizarro World, so I guess I wouldn’t, but contrapostively your beef would be that I wouldn’t allow Denis to post where liberals and conservatives disagree so it’d all be good. Or bad. Whatever.

And third, your Mann-made global warming reference was heard by me as a call to come out and play. If I was wrong, sorry. If not, we should not deviate from the thread’s topic. I’ll reply with my heresy on a more appropriate post. This is Zack’s blog and, while I don’t often agree with him, I will respect his rules. Respecting rules (Blog Rules, Rule of Law.), after all, separates us from Anarchists, crack heads, Charmin squeezers, and apparently Hillary Clinton.

        -Nemo

        1. Nemo,

You wrote, “First, I am strangely honored.”

You’re a dishonor to conservatives everywhere.

You wrote, “that you would think that I am in any way connected to the Denis posts here.”

You vouched for him long before we knew the truth.

          Ed,
The fellow who is posting as “Denis Navatril” and at least two other identities here has, by his repeated use of several key phrases (“Wow, just wow.”; “Seriously ___, get some help.”; “. . . so I will spell it out for you . . .”; others too numerous to mention), convinced me he is the same troll posting as “Jim Halpert” on the news site of WEAU TV, Eau Claire. I suggest going to http://www.weau.com/home and clicking on, among others, any story containing “Walker” in its title. Read any/all comments by Mr. “Halpert.” You will see what I mean.
This individual also posts under several dozen other names on WEAU’s site, creating a slightly different personality for each, and while his phrasing here is closest to that of Mr. “Halpert,” the signature tone of disrespect and his straw man tactics are readily discernible as coming from the same individual. I’m assuming you can see my email address; if you want a list of the other names this individual uses on WEAU, email me and I will reply with one.
In my opinion, removing this guy from this blog would be beneficial to all concerned. His presence here over the past week or so has gotten you all pretty riled up. I submit that you cannot win an argument with this individual. He will just continue to insult you, divert the discussion, and avoid directly addressing your comments. Please bid him adieu. Thank you.”

Wise up. “The internet never forgets.” The odds are that eventually a lot of the identities who commented as “Nemo” and “Denis….” will be public record.

Based on what Jim Halpert, or whoever’s using the Denis handle now wrote, there’s a real Denis Navratil living in Wisconsin.

          1. John, because I’m in an enumerated list mood today…

            A) Why am I “a dishonor to conservatives everywhere?” Just curious.

            B) I’ve met Denis Navratil and had a beer with him. He’s a thoughtful, interesting guy. I’d vouch for him. If someone is posting under his name, tell them “Dirty pool old man!” Feel free to quote me on that.

            C) You would do better to focus your energies on possible reasons that Hillary had (and used for official State Department business) a private email server instead of trying to determine the rather obvious name of the north woods engineer that posts as Nemo (see you at Footstock this weekend?).

            -Nemo

            1. If it is a self-imposed and voluntary restraint, on you part, from commenting here, it is greatly appreciated. Kindly continue in that vein.

            2. Nemo,

              1. When did this meeting take place?

              2. If you can’t remember the exact date, estimate it. What day of the week? Night or day?

              3. Who contacted who first?

              4. How long after your initial communication was the meeting at the bar?

              5. Since you were already in communication, why meet “face-to-face?”

              6. What bar?

              7. How many bartenders were working?

              8. Who got there first?

              9. Did you sit at the bar?

              10. What kind of beer did you order?

              11. What kind of beer did Denis order?

              12. How did you pay?

              13. How did Denis pay?

              14. How do you know the guy you met is Denis?

              15. How do you know the guy you met is the guy who comments here under Denis’ name?

              16. Why have you never again met with Denis “face-to-face?”

Thanks for bringing up Sec. Clinton’s emails.

              1. Not sure what my meeting Denis during a late Summer weekday in a downtown Racine bar and talking at a table while enjoying a Guinness has to do with breaking into “secure” computing systems and that action underscoring the strong possibility of others breaking into a private unsecured server that seems to have held classified information. For what it’s worth though, the guy I met responded to the name “Denis” and his wife, who was also there, seemed under the impression that his name was “Denis”, but I did not request to see a birth certificate or other form of official ID.

-Nemo, gave his alibi then lawyer-ed up

    2. Your continued presumption that anyone commenting @ BB is a fan of Hillary, for any reason, exhibits your clear and fully apparent political ineptitude. But DO keep running her down FOR us, we’ve got more important issues to deal with.

      1. non, Not sure who the “you” is in “your” (John, Ed, Nemo, Other) but whoever it was you (non) should note that Hillary does not want your fandom. She wants your vote. A majority of those commenting here WILL be voting for her in just under 14 months. Not me though., I prefer my beer cold, my lake flat, and my shrews Shakespearian.

        1. Understandable that you might be confused, as you are the only commentator that thinks readers here couldn’t guess and needed to be told who you will not be voting for, that the programmed auto-alphabetical assignation of upper and lower case letters to the comments would also be just a bit too tough for you to follow. Good luck overcoming that hurdle. Hope my hint helps you keep up with the discussions from here on out.

          1. non, it was the “programmed auto-alphabetical assignation of upper and lower case letters” that lead to the ambiguity. You seem to be responding (B.) to John Casper (August 18, 2015 at 12:38 pm) in an exchange between John and Denis (A.), yet John does not mention Hillary. Is the “programmed auto-alphabetical assignation of upper and lower case letters” buggy or are you?

  5. Keep it up gentlemen…three more comments on any of my posts before August 31st and Zach has to pay me the next bonus level…LOL!
