Carson Campaign Is Channeling the Onion!

I always thought that the Obama campaign and White House stole many of their best riffs from The West Wing television series…but it appears that Dr. Carson’s campaign is stealing their material from the satirical website, The Onion!

Dr. Carson:

In an interview with Breitbart News Radio, Carson suggested the U.S. has to keep Syrian refugees out of the country because the public will treat them so poorly they will become radicalized.

“You bring a lot of people here from another culture and what they will tend to do is congregate together, that’s a natural thing, which makes them much easier targets for radicalization,” Carson said on the program. “Particularly if you bring them into an environment where a lot people of are resentful of the fact that they are here. That’s just going to create incidents that will increase further the likelihood of radicalization.”

“So again, why would anyone even be thinking about doing something like that?” he continued.

Now The Onion, although they guessed wrong and attributed this nonsense to Sen. Ted Cruz:

“We absolutely cannot provide a safe haven to these Syrians due to the very real threat that the abusive and hateful conduct of Americans will push the refugees toward radicalization and recruitment by extremist militant groups,” said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), echoing the sentiments of numerous other presidential candidates and state governors who have argued that Syrian asylum seekers would in all probability embrace a radical jihadist worldview after constantly enduring anti-Muslim hate speech, racial epithets, and threats of violence and persecution by both the American people and government officials. “The moment we let these Syrians in, I promise that our most ruthless and cruel tendencies will take over, and we won’t relent until these refugees feel like they have no choice but to plan and execute a terror attack right inside our borders. It’s better to be safe than sorry in this situation.”

You just can’t make this stuff up!

  1. That sounds a lot like the “we don’t hate blacks but total segregation is the only way to stop natural ethnic conflicts” garbage I remember seeing in a Ku Klux Klan interview years ago.

There is some truth in what he said, but that is no excuse for denying people refuge. It is the difference between acknowledging a problem and using that problem to justify bigoted policy.
