Rebecca Bradley Not Qualified For Wisconsin State Supreme Court

And yes that is my personal opinion…but I am not relying on my opinion to write this post. The incumbent Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice (incumbent by virtue of an ethically questionable appointment to the bench by Governor Scott Walker) Rebecca Bradley has been identified as not qualified to be a state supreme court justice by…the Milwaukee Bar Association. Essentially a panel of her peers:

A majority of area lawyers who responded to an annual Milwaukee Bar Association survey feel Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley is unqualified for her job.

Bradley received 138 “not qualified” votes to 120 “qualified” and 27 “no opinion” votes.

Ouch…that’s got to leave a mark. But if those numbers don’t look ‘so bad’ to you…this is where her opponent ranked:

Her challenger, Court of Appeals Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg, scored 203 qualified, 48 unqualified and 37 no opinions.

When the poll was brought up in a recent debate, this is what Justice Bradley had to say:

Bradley responded, “We can all breathe a sigh of relief that 120-some partisan lawyers in Milwaukee County will not decide this election.”

Was she referring to the 120 lawyers that said she was qualified?

  1. Ed, thanks.

The comments below are from a terrific JS commenter, @robertearle. They illustrate how poorly Justice Rebecca Bradley fares even against other wingnuts.

“Butler came out with 429 votes for “qualified” and 52 for “not qualified.” Gableman only received 119 votes for “qualified” and 198 for “not qualified.” Another 195 MBA members had no opinion about Gableman; 45 had no opinion about Butler.”

Below is a later comment he made explaining it.

A great majority of Milw Bar Association poll re(sic)pondents rated Prosser “qualified” in 2011.

A great majority of Milw Bar Association poll re(sic)pondents rated Roggensack “qualified” in 2013.

A majority of Milw Bar Association poll re(sic)pondents who gave a rating rated RBradley “not qualified” in 2016 (after having rated her “qualified” for the circuit court in 2013).

And lastly, a great majority of Milw Bar Association poll re(sic)pondents rated Kloppenburg “qualified” in 2016.

  2. All well and good, but here’s the real reason she’s not qualified:
The position of ‘ill tempered and inclined to fly off the handle’ is already filled on the WI Supreme Court.
