Apparently US Representative Mark Pocan (D-WI) has invited House Speaker Paul Ryan’s Democratic opponent, Randy Bryce, to tonight’s State of the Union address as his guest. It’s not unusual for members of Congress to make political statements with their choice of guests, so this shouldn’t be that big a deal. But it has US Representative James Sensenbrenner spitting up all over himself this afternoon:
After Congressman Mark Pocan tweeted that Paul Ryan challenger Randy Bryce would be his guest at President Trump’s State of the Union Address, fellow Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner had a bit to say.
In a press release Sensenbrenner called the move “a disheartening attempt to cash in on Speaker Paul Ryan’s prominent role in American government.”
He went on to say, “This is an attempt to sow political discourse (sic) and deepen a divide in an already fractured political environment. Creating a spectacle like this – regardless of position or party – is disrespectful and out of bounds.
Just a quick question to TMJ4: did the press release really say this “…sow political discourse…” or did your editing crew do a really sloppy job on this? The way it reads is a good thing…the way I think that Rep. Sensenbrenner probably meant it, sow political discord, isn’t
But here’s the punchline:
Worse, Mr. Bryce is using it as a tool to actively raise campaign funds.”
This last in a world where the president will display the names of political contributors to his campaign in the live crawl of the SOTU. Rep. Sensenbrenner…look to your own house!!
Will President Trump Display the Names of Campaign Donors During the State of the Union?
