Nancy Pelosi Understands That It’s Not Time To Spike the Ball

Unfortunately Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer didn’t get the message as he said this following President Trump’s signing of the continuing resolution:

“Hopefully now the president has learned his lesson,” …

Gaaaak…Sen. Schumer just threw away the high ground.

But thankfully Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi who actually managed the Democratic position in the House…understands how to govern and how to act like you know what you are doing. Her response?

Pelosi joined Schumer in commending the deal but stopped short of reveling in seeing Trump drop his previous insistence on border wall funding.

“It’s sad, though, that it’s taken this long to come to an obvious conclusion,” she said.

“Disagreement in policy should never be a reason to shut down government.”

Pelosi said she remained “optimistic” that a long-term deal will be reached.

Trump’s retreat clearly reinforces Pelosi’s reputation as a master political tactician, but she did not gloat.

“I don’t see this as any power play,” she said, declining to speculate on whether the president held out over wall funding to show who was in charge.

The sad part around this entire episode is that 800,000 dedicated public servants suffered financial hardship through no fault of their own. It is additionally sad that this isn’t over…this is simply a three week reprieve. And maybe even sadder that this is essentially the same bill that the president threw out last December 21st…this whole shameful thing could have been totally avoided.
