Rep. Scott Perry: Another Out of Time Member of the Real Elite

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) said

… a government shutdown would not truly impact employees and scoffed at the idea that a federal worker would need their next paycheck to make ends meet.

“Who’s living that they’re not going to make it to the next paycheck?” he asked Politico reporter Sarah Ferris.

“Why are government employees so sacrosanct? Private sector employees deal with this all the time…The government’s not immune to these things,” he added.

First, it isn’t right that anyone in this country has to live paycheck to paycheck.

And even if government employees aren’t living from paycheck to paycheck…nobody should ever have to work without getting paid. Government employees shouldn’t be getting furloughed on a whim. This isn’t on the shoulders of government employees…it’s on the president.

And whether those employees working without pay or those on furlough can afford to live without that paycheck for a week or more or a long time…the right answer is they shouldn’t have to…we should live up to our promise and pay them on time!
